My unfortunate parting words...

Well, after 6+ years and 80k miles, the MINI is officially no longer mine. I hit a rather large deer on my way home from work one night on an off ramp of Route 24 East in Millburn NJ. The damage totaled more than $8500! My '03 MCS with 80k+ miles was NOT considered a total loss by Liberty Mutual. I was absolutely amazed by this being that i didn't think that it was worth more than $11k. They claim the car was still worth $13-14k ! The body shop owner happens to be a friend of mine and he bought the car from me. So i say farewell to the MINI but not to NAM. I will still be lurking even though my new WRX will be the new mode of transportation. Just wanted to try something different. Take care guys, and if you're in Northern NJ and you see a new 2010 White WRX wave, you know it's Disco!!

Sorry to read about your loss. I've hit a deer too (a long time ago, at highway speed, in a Dodge Dart Swinger). I'm glad you weren't hurt. Did you take the deer home to eat? I remember after I hit mine, only ONE driver stopped; he asked if I was ok first, then asked if he could take the deer if I didn't want it.

Hmmm. I have Liberty Mutual too, and it seems odd not totaling it. I guess they have their reasons.

We have a STI here as well as 2 MINIs. I hope you enjoy your WRX. The STI is painful to be in for more than a few miles. I try to avoid it as much as possible.

Glad your ok. Enjoy the new ride! ::wave::

I nearly hit a dear about 2 weeks ago in the mini. I was driving from Oakland to Mahwah on Rt202. A dear jumped out on a straight away. Thank god i wasn't speeding. I jammed on the breaks and missed the dear by maybe 5 feet. The scray part was the car on the other side of the road. We both passed each other at the point the dear was crossing. So even though i missed the dear i was worried the other drive would swerve into my lane. Gave me uite the scare on the way to work that morning.

I've seen deer from my MINI, but they stayed on the side, dazzled by the headlights until I passed. But a few years ago I was driving my mother's car at night on the interstate and a deer came out, I saw it in time and slowed just enough, 75 to 60mph. The deer lost traction on the asphalt but scurried out of the way only to be hit by another car head on in the other direction. I caught it as I glanced back.

Glad to hear you're ok. You have pics of the WRX? Hopefully you'll be back to Mini's in the future.

that is a total bummer. Freakin' deers...

Atleast you have a nice ride to go to. I was considering buying an imprezza myself but as soon as I test drove a MINI I knew it had to be so.

Hopefully things work out for you.

Sorry to hear about your loss, however you will absolutely love the Subie, so much bang for the buck, aftermarket support and most importantly AWD. Good luck and if I see a white WRX flash me I'll know who it is .
