Should I renew maintenance?
Should I renew maintenance?
Hi!
First post! I have a 2006 Mini Cooper. Just went over 50k miles yesterday. A nice lady at Mini dealership says it is a no-brainer to renew maintenance and that if I want to do it, I have until end of the month and cost to renew is $2195.
Wondering what you guys think? Is it better to pay now to renew maint or cheaper to just pay for repairs/services along the way?

You'll get a mix of opinions on this one, but for me I think that the $2195 price tag is a bit high. I thoght it was the closer you get to your Factory Warranty expiring the cheaper it should be??!!
I'm not quite there yet, still have 16,000 miles to go I think, currently @ 20,000+.

Welcome.
If it is for maintenance only than it is not worth it. Oil changes and such are easy to do yourself. Brakes are covered in maintenance but that is no where near $2195. Now if it covered the Power Steering Pump. Or the Radiator Fans. Or the Supercharger? Or AC compressor. Or clutch and flywheel? That would be a different matter IMO. All of those parts are problematic and all are expensive and not covered under maintenance.

Hi!
Thanks so much for getting back to me. Yes, from what she said, maintenance covers anything that wears out and has to be replaced. So rotors and drums, belts, windshield wipers, oil and filter, bearings (I guess but I do not know) - that kind of thing. Does not cover batteries or lightbulbs apparently.
The next big service is at 60k. I'm not sure what that involves but I do recall someone at the dealership telling me replacing rotors and drums alone would make it worthwhile renewing maint. But I do not know what's involved.
Does it sound like it would be worth it based on what they will do for the 60k service? I still have almost 10k miles to go before I reach the 60k.

60k service costs $500 - $700 at the dealer, and all the really do aside from look at things is an oil change. Front and rear brake service (rotors, pads, brake fluid flush) is going to run over $1,000, and new bushings and alignment will run you $750 (I just got a quote from my dealership for that amount).
Of course, that's all dealer cost. You can do a quick inspection, front brake service and new bushings and alignment, and an oil change for under $1,000 at an independent shop.
