Vendor Alert-Tunershop

Guys,

Wanted to give you a heads up that you might want to think twice before doing business with this outfit.

I bought a set of wheels from them and must take responsibility that I did not do my research well enough that 8.5" rims would be a look that I was not going for on my MINI. Could have helped if they had more pictures which they shared with me after the fact.

Problems are-
-They take about 14 days to ship a order and they were very uncommunicative in my attempts to get tracking info
-While they have a US website stating a address in Nevada they do business and ship from Germany
-When I discovered their wheels did not fit my needs they tried to tell me that they would not take the wheels back for credit if I paid return shipping which is the terms and conditions stated on their website. I had to send a very nasty email pointing this out to get a RMA#
-As they are really doing business from Germany you have to ship back to Germany (around $500 shipping for the set of wheels)
-As I am not a experienced international shipper I did not fill out the correct paperwork with Fedex so I got slapped with VAT tax and Customs Duties, another $500
-I found out from FedEX that the company can deduct these VAT taxes from their own business taxes. So far 2 emails requesting them to make this right have gone unanswered. Looks like I am stuck

Tale of the tape....make darn sure if you choose to do business with this outfit that you know exactly what you are getting and it fits your needs exactly cause the consequences are very, very expensive.

Personally I can think of many many US vendors that are easier and less costly to do business with. Needless to say I will not be doing business in this lifetime with Tunershop.

Please take my experience and hopefully not make the same mistake

I've learned my lesson about ordering from little known websites and far-flung places, but mine dealt with computer parts. I'll only deal with Newegg from now on.

You check rates from USPS? I mailed sold goods to Greece via USPS for only $40 while UPS and Fedex wanted over $200.

With the loss incurred from shipping, VAT, and customs, I would guess that you would have lost less if you'd just sold them second hand domestically.

Hindsight being what it is your absolutely right

I was just so tired of dealing with this bunch that I wanted to just be done with the whole deal, and I did. At a pretty steep price

How did you pay...if you used a credit card, perhaps they can act on your behalf.

Capital One was great getting the money back from the actual purchase. I did not note that Tunershop was a pain about that too. They tried to stick me with some restocking fees but I wrote out a complete log of the transaction and they folded and coughed that up.

What I'm out is shipping back to Germany. That was stated in terms and conditions on website that customer was responsible for shipping returns. Of course they failed to mention that was back to Germany not Nevada where theres websites states their US operations are out of.

I'm also out VAT Taxes and Customs duties imposed by German customs. FYI you can fill out a document before shipping, not after, that can get them waived.

Capital One cannot do anything for me here

Only option I had according to FedEx was to get Tunershop to step up and take responsibility for VAT Tax which would not cost them anything as they can write off on their business taxes. Two emails requesting this and absolutely no reply.

Thank you for the heads up.

Lots of great vendors here to deal with. I'll second the contact your credit card company if you paid that way. I always pay by credit card in such transactions. They will go to bat for you.

damn sucks to hear. Even if you ordered 6-lug 20" rims for your mini its no excuse for any paying customer to have to go through hassles like that... its not ususally that much a PITA to ship internationally these days, though 3 weeks shipping is always a possibility...
