LSD & Gas Mileage

Well it looks like my Clubman S will be loaded on board a ship any time now so I guess I'm only a few weeks away! One of the things that has been nagging me: When I ordered the car my MA commended me on getting the LSD but said my gas mileage would suffer a bit because of it. Is this really true? If so, how true is it? Will the decrease in mileage be substantial or negligible?
Or maybe it depends on how its driven?

I never considered that LSD would have any effect on gas mileage, and I'm hard put to think of any reason it should. Driving style is going to have a much bigger impact on mileage, there might be a correlation between getting LSD and a driving style which gets worse mileage. I don't get good mileage in any MINI, with LSD or not, in fact the MCS with LSD gets much the same (maybe slightly better) than the MC (which of course doesn't have LSD).

Yeah I really wonder about it. I think I may take my rep (MA) to the mat about it. Just doesnt add up. Would an open diff really decrease the resistance on a power train so much the gas mileage would be better vs a LSD? Im thinking he was just lying to me to get me to buy something off the lot? That makes the most sense to me right now.
