Too fanatical?
My wife jokes that we need to take another car so we can drive from where I park the Mini to where we are going! However, she has adopted the OCD lifestyle even with her Volvo which has 120,000 and I must say looks like new; no door dings, bumper dings etc., and is washed (by hand) at least once a week.
Saturday night we took my freshly washed MINI to a movie and under the neons of a parking lot I noticed a few roof streaks, so out came the detail spray and Hydro for the touch-up. She just laughed and shook her head, said I love you, and waited while I touched up the roof.
I think I'm one lucky guy!

Yup....you are lucky, sir!! Tell her the MINI owners of North America think she is awesome!!!!!
Maybe she could do a spousal clinic at the Dragon one of these years!!

as far as closing the trunk goes...i always just use the license plate...its got one of those covers on it.... Once i actually took it off once to clean it and it was scratched up like crazy from the winter season.... fingers can really do a number on things if not clean
My wife also suffered from hereditary door slamming.
It took only a few short weeks for her to realize the wisdom of my teachings (
), but now she's very careful about closing and opening doors. Now to get her to close the closet doors all the way in our home!!!
My father-in-law didn't get the message. So when he has to get in or out if the MINI, I do the honors. He's very very embarassed, but dare not go against the son-in-law (thank god for the Indian culture!!)
When my wife sees our MINI, she appreciates all the TLC I give to our MINI and doesn't begrudge me the 4 hours I spend every other weekend getting the car hand-washed (wish I don't live in a condo!!)

I agree with you, it is a car, but unlike people who grow stronger when facing down the bumps and bruises of an unfair life, a MINI garners no benefit. I will mourn in MINIture each rock chip and door ding. I will not throw her over as the world plays tag, nor will I rejoice. Instead, I will protect her and in the act, I will protect myself.
(Like that? Almost poetic. Almost.

I don't think so.
I feel the exactly the same as you and if this is being OCD, then I am. There are pull handles in the inside of the hatch for reason. I too, don't touch the outside of the hatch when closing. I've got it down well, closing it without slamming it, as this is my second MINI, and I've had losts of practice. Hey, I just want my MINI to look good for a very long time. Nothin' wrong with that.
I look at my MINI as a beloved pet....and when we are out motoring, there is truly something of a dialogue going on in regards to the road and the car's capability at a given moment. If a cowboy can love his horse, and a sledder their dogs, I see no reason for there not to be a certain "engaged" relationship w/ a MINI...especially a MINI!!!

A week ago we were heading to Safeway in the early evening. I was circuling the lot looking for the right place to park. Where it was quiet, away from shopping carts, shaded, and not under trees to avoid sap. My wife pointed out 2 or 3 spots before I finally parked Spike. It was not my first choice, but she was getting a little hot under the collar. Finally she said "I'm only trying to help you".
Like I have some sort of MINI addiction problem. Ok well maybe I do, but it's only a MINIature problem.

^^Your technique is perfect sir!
My friend says he hates riding with me because I always find the "most inconvenient" parking spot as possible. I tell him I'm merely "reducing the potential" (then he laughs because he knows that's the line from the "two bucket technique" video.) Personally, a 50-foot difference in how far I have to walk is a small price to pay if it means my car stays clean and dent-free longer.

My wife is like the lady in the commercial that uses her foot to close the door and then wipes the foot print off with her skirt.
I love her, so I just get out the polish every now and then, - It is just a car or better said a "mini".

The errors of her ways
Yesterday I was shocked to see my wife washing our 4Runner with a old dish rag. No soap, no wash mitt. Just a garden hose and a rag. That SUV had 1 million swirls, now it has 2 million. I don't think even OctaneGuy can salvage our 4Runner
I tried to explain to her the errors of her ways, and at the same time instruct her NEVER to try to surprise me by washing the MINI
Thanks but no thanks.
