How long does it take to make a plate?

I ordered a Euro plate and holder on the 16th of March, and still nothing but crickets from the company. Anyone else had a long wait from Europeanplates.com? Basically, you're ordering a vanity plate if you are in the US-what kind of demand could there be that it takes 4 weeks to stamp a plate and mail it? I mean, I can wait-it's not a major part or anything, but sheesh.

I believe this company has been discussed on NAM for this very thing(?)

I orderd mine from: http://www.europlates.com/ less than two weeks!

Thanks for picking up this thread! I would caution buyers against this company- the emails I get from them concerning my order are poorly worded and garbled. I'm not happy with the prolonged wait, either. I let them know I'm about to revoke payment due to lack of communication and overlong wait. We'll see what comes of it.

I didn't think to research the company first. They'll either provide proof that the order is underway, or pay me back.

Update:
I emailed the company and filed a dispute with Paypal. No reply from the company but they did modify their front page to reflect a new policy:
2-4 weeks for delivery. That's up one week from when I placed my order. According to the timestamp the change was made yesterday...

Keeping my misery alive for any readers out there:
A string of questions about my order were met with replies from Europeanplates stating they will "look into the order". Since they never directly replied to my questions about whether my plates had been made yet (I assume so they could keep from refunding my money) I finally opened a dispute with Paypal. This did not prompt them to take any special action or speed up the "process". Upgraded my dispute to a claim, but still no plates on week 5. It's like ordering plates from the Bermuda Triangle.

FYI, www.autoplates.com and www.europlates.com appear to be the same company, in Melbourne Florida, and appear to be well-run; www.europeanplates.com, discussed above, is in Seattle.

Good to know there are so many better places to order these things from. They are currently running out the clock on the time Paypal gave them to "respond" to my claim. My guess is they will wait until the last minute out of spite, which will put me at a 7 week wait. Hopefully they will ship the plate, and it will actually arrive at my house.

For the morbidly curious I offer the following:
European plates dot com waited the entire time given to them by Paypal to respond to my claim (as predicted). I entered the claim on the 3rd of April, got a response on the 13th at close of business. The response was not an apology for being weeks behind on the order, as one might expect. Instead, the message contained naught but a USPS tracking number by way of a reply. I ran the tracking number through USPS; Guess what? False number. So now the company has another 16 days to respond to the issue, and presumably to my reply to said response, potentially dragging out the resolution until the very end of time.
The very end of time, I tell you.

Sorry to hear that you've had problems ordering plates.

I got mine from Alex Cuppini at http://grtpl8s.com/

I've ordered on a few different occasions from him - got used original plates, new 'custom' plates, and authentic dealer plate frames.

Communication was always great, and I received my stuff in about a week.

From grtpl8ts:

"After 10 minutes the plate is done and is ready to be sent to you."

Oh, if only I'd done a little reading first!

ordered mine from:

http://www.autoplates.com/store/cust...uroplates.html

Mine took 4 weeks....

When it arrived UPS, it was in a flat box w/o much protection, and the box was practically bent in half......UPS.....S%KS.....

I called company and made a complaint. It took few days for them to call me back. By then I was able to carefully straighten the plate out with no ill effects....All in all they have a nice product, and were pleasant on the phone.

He was really good about letting me know when it was finished, and when he shipped it out. It was also extremely well protected - it took me a few minutes to cut through all the bubble wrap!

Now I kind of wish I'd gotten the white on black as well-what's the country of origin for that color scheme, or is it just a custom job?

That's most likely a custom job. If you look at the grtpl8ts website, under "Special German customized plates", you'll see that they can make these too.

The only country that I've personally been to with black license plates (as regular issue): Liechtenstein. Real plates from Liechtenstein are of the same size as plates from Switzerland. If memory serves me right, they're black with white letters, and have the crest in the middle. The long-style rear plate is 'almost' the same size as regular EU plates - they're they same height, but a few mm narrower. I found this out the hard way - I purchased some nice license plate frames in Switzerland, thinking they would fit my German EU-sized license plates, only to find out Swiss plates are narrower!

I don't recall ever seeing black plates when I was in Germany...

Checking in to report another week is in it's grave and still no plate...Now it's been a month. Paypal has given itself until the 3rd of May to arrive at a judgement concerning the dispute. Hopefully, they will take into consideration the important facts:
I never received the things I paid for.
The seller sent a false tracking number when pressed to ship.
It seems cut and dry to me.

Good news-Paypal decided to refund my money after reviewing the claim. Now I'm free to buy a plate and holder from a more reputable company. Any other company recommendations? Grtpl8ts? Europlates?
Has anyone had trouble fitting euro holders? If you look in my gallery you'll see the plate holder I removed, leaving a space for a euro tag between the chrome. Any suggestions?

Well, you already know that I'm going to recommend grtpl8ts.

As you've already discovered, a Cooper like yours has a Euro-sized opening in the front bumper. Once the US adapter is removed, it's just a matter of screwing in a Euro plate holder to the bumper. The Euro plate holders are pretty slick - they have a bunch of mounting options, and there's bound to be holes in it that line up w/ the existing holes in your bumper. The license plate simply snaps into place in the holder (no need to drill the plate itself), and you're done!

This link has pics of a euro plate install on a 2nd gen MINI. You can see the license plate frame I'm talking about, and how he screwed it into the license plate bracket for his car.

I'm looking at licenseplates.tv as grtpl8ts seem to be located in Europe. I see the silver-on-black UK plates-they are pretty tempting. It's funny you can order US/NATO plates if so inclined. Grtpl8ts offers Cyrillic lettering options, which is pretty cool.

My 2 CENTS

My 2 Cents, but IMO I would not buy the Euro plate holder and get the OEM Euro BMW-MINI bracket in the bottom of this photo.......You cant use both, and the OEM bracket looks better as it doesnt cover up the outer painted edge line.

Here using the bracket the plate sellers have, the outer edge of the plate is covered.

Here in my case, if I had used the plate bracket from the license
plate company, the outer silver band would not show....
