I can relate. Picked up mine on Thursday and have to check on it periodically. I used to make fun of my friends for finding the furthest parking space they could but now I completely understand.

sounds no different than anyone who really cares for thier car!

its all about not trusting others lol

today i came back from a meeting with a coworker in thier car...and whats parked on the line of my space, which my car is dead center in....a beat to hell (maybe 1990) cavalier dented to **** with cigarette burns all over (yeah they were that obvious) and CDs strewn throughout.... i cringed, checked for damage (none...good) then moved over a spot...i have a deep hatred for people like that

I also try to evaluate car condition and car owner-likelihood-to-dent-my car.
Busted up Kia Rio covered in bumper stickers...Should I worry?
Giant pickup truck with rebel flag license plate holder....Best find another spot?

always better safe than sorry... people are mean lol

for example..
my best friend had this happen a couple days ago... they were at a restaurant and his 3 year old slammed thier door into a neighboring brand new saturn of some kind, dinging or scratching it... he kept watch for when they were leaving and kind of left at similar times and went to apologize and give his info to them... the 80 year old lady proceeded to slam her door into his (not seeing him) leaving a huge dent

...im full of stories today hah

so i guess parking out in the boonies can simply save some hassle!

Just got my mini last tuesday, and I make late night trips down to my parking garage to check on my mini. I give it the once over... sit in it for a bit and go back to my apartment. LOL.. crazy! I'm also guilty of scoping out the perfect parking spot.... preferably in the very back! I'm so paranoid... glad I'm not the only one! I love my mini! I went from driving an H3 to a mini... talk about night and day! Not having to put gas every 4days is an AMAZING feeling!

I do that with my wee Mini, it is too much fun watching people come over to the car and take photos and ponder it.

With my 06 I am always way out yonder in the lots, curb in front and curb on the side, can't be too careful....

I got my MINI today, and my boyfriend keeps laughing at me because I can't stop peering out the window at it.

I only hope when I wake up in the middle of the night (as I usually do) that I can keep myself from checking on it. I haven't been this nutty since my child was born (18 years ago!)...

I have since learned not to compromise in the first place. This includes avoiding cars w/ the possibility of improper spacing, all trees, any possible bird perches, sprinklers, weed-wackers or leaf-blowers, and fireworks. It's something of a lifestyle.
I am laughing as I read this thread (and especially at the above quote) because all of this behaviour I too am guilty of and have been PERSECUTED for by my friends for the longest time. I get sooo paranoid about where I park... windy days scare me the most-- rogue shopping carts blowing around... garbage bins. I fear for Mia (Mia is my MC, Clark is my MCS on order).

When people ask me why I care so much to park far away, or in a perfect spot... I just tell them that the moment something happens to your car, like a scratch or a door ding, you will immediately wish you parked somewhere else.

So I park "somewhere else" all the time in the first place.

Nice story. My husband does that to our 2009 Honda Accord coupe. We were suppose to get a MC but he decided to get a Honda Accord instead. I was really pissed when he got the car. I told him, I will have my mini cooper in the future and I would not let him drive it nor ride in it. He always tell me that its a small car and it's not safe which I always answer back in return, I fell in love with the mini cooper when I saw one, I wanted to have one when we went for a test drive and I will always love it because it is simply lovable.

The mini's easily as safe as his plain vanilla Accord. OK, Accords are world-class "nice", quieter on the highway, and have great git'emup, but heck, they're for grownups. An Accord wouldn't last a minute here in Neverland.

That's what I told my husband. The Accord looks nice but I will always pick the mini cooper over the Accord without any hesitation.
