Diesel MINI

Any talk of bringing a MINI Diesel into the US market? I have a Jetta Diesel and it is the best. I would love a Clubman Diesel with a 6spd stick. 40 city/50 hwy and 200lbs of torque makes a nice ride in a very cool car.

Me...

Lost my MB 300D in a fire a month or so back. The MCSc is its replacement. Still have the F350 Dually Power Stroke though. Would certainly want to consider a Mini D

I loved the Cooper D for the one weekend I got to, uh, test drive it (my employer was considering Bosch's start/stop system and it was one of their demo cars). If fuel prices stabilize at a reasonable level and diesel proves to be a fiscally wise choice as well as just a totally cool car, I'd be in. The Dooper was even easier to drive than my MCS with all that low end torque, plus it just sounds cool. 46mpg over a weekend of everything I could throw at it was pretty good by me, too!

Last I heard, BMW had no plans to bring the MINI D to market in North America because it does not pass California emissions standards... though there are plenty of rumors out there stating that they are investigating lower emission engines that are not quite as fuel efficient as the European models. From what I've found, the euro models get 72 mpg, and the rumored mpg of this lower emission engine is 60.

Still nothing to sneeze at, but to lose 12 mpg for the sake of emissions... wow.

Don't forget, the imperial gallon is bigger than the US gallon, so those figures may be closer than you think. Also, fuel economy testing procedures are different for Europe and the US so even the same car tested on different cycles will get different labels for different countries.

I would expect about 40 City and 50 Highway. Diesel is now selling at less than premium and with the low end torque they drive great. Remember, you drive torque and you race HP. Of course if you look at LeMans they race pretty well too. They also respond incredibly to aftermarket tuning.

Come to WA instead. We like visitors here and our government is just as corrupt as CA's, but our politicians are slightly less stupid.
