$1,500 off MSRP... would you do it?

Excellent site and looks like a great owners group.

I have just been offered 1500 off MSRP and no doc fee on an 09 S model.

Is this a good discount considering the state of the economy? Would you jump or wait it out a bit to see if a better deals comes along?

Thanks in advance.

Agreed - discounts off of MSRP are still fairly rare in MINI-land, so if the car is the one you want, I'd jump on it.

Most folks paid sticker.
I say, go for it, especially if they have one in stock that's near to what you're looking for.

No new cars for me for a while. Its time to buckle down and cars are a large chunk of cash out of accounts that need to bounce back.

Mini is not known to give discounts. Mainly because they don't need to. there great cars, hold there value (rated number 1 as of yesterday!)
So if your getting all those breaks, its because they are bending to accomidate with the economy.

JUMP!

It's crazy that used Mini's go for so much more then other cars.
I'd bet folks trying to sell used ones aren't getting the price they expect.

Also if you research around the web and especially here , the word on Mini is "looks Great" , "Fun to Drive"
"Has Mechanical Problems"

I think the resale value of Mini is in for a correction.
If Honda made something that looked like a Mini, Mini would go in the tank.

I have to agree with the looks great, and fun to drive. That it is!
As far as mechanical. I have 66K on my heavily modded mini, and have not had a single issue, or rattle. Except for the over head light cover. That used to rattle. I took it out, heated it with a heat gun, opened it up a bit more, now im rattle free

One thing im a little leary about when someone says a car has mechanical issues, is there are to many variables. can they afford to do routine maintenance? do they even do it? are they using proper replacement parts. etc.

Good feedback everyone and thanks for passing along your thoughts. I have not pulled the trigger yet. I really want the car and do feel this is a good price but.... dang the bad news keeps rolling in on the state of the economy and it makes me so nervous to spend extra money. I almost feel guilty driving a new car down the street when so many are losing jobs. I am lucky and feel I have a good job but seeing so many not as lucky does make you wonder how bad is this going to get.

But on the flip side:

The nation needs the people with jobs to spend money to get things going again so people can get back to work... and I want this car so bad! I feel maybe 6 months down the road when dealer inventories are much lower and things are improving, gas prices go up this summer, then I may look back and think I am so glad I bought the MINI because prices will most likely go back up to MSRP or more.

Difficult decision.

I think that way sometimes now myself. Do I really need a $350. per month car payment? Then I think of getting rid of the car and buying one outrite.
Then I think of other ways I can lower or get rid of other bills, just in case I get slow at my shop.

Then I get in it, turn the key, I hear the gurgle of the exhaust. then i hear the super charger whine through the CAI, which is now even more prevelant now that the cabon Fibre hood is on. and it hits me every time at that moment, I made the rite choice....

Ive owned over 40 cars in my life, from rx7, volvo p1800, muscle cars, trucks, customs, and rods. I will tell you this much, This is by far the absolute funnest, conversation starting vehicle I have ever owned.

I think it could go either way. At some point supply will meet demand and incentives will go away. All automakers are slashing production again and inventories are going down (slower in some cases). If I were buying a Chrysler I'd wait it out for the fire sale, but a MINI - I think most people buying them nowadays are buying them with "extra" money anyway, and will continue to. Sales will slow down (and have) but so has production - and dealers have lowered inventories because it's expensive to keep on the lot.

So I guess my point is: if you want it and you think it's a good deal - buy it. Even if it gets a little cheaper, "yours" might not be there and you could have been enjoying it for a couple months.

In California we have a 2% tax hike coming up so now is looking like a good time. The thing is for me I'm not finding what I want.
Also I heard something about a car buying stimulus federal pay-out in the works ?? Anybody know about that?

Yep - as part of the new stimulus package, state & local sales taxes paid on new vehicle purchases are tax-deductible on your federal return, whether you itemize your deductions or not. I think that state & local taxes have always been deductible, but you had to itemize your deductions to do it, and itemizing doesn't work out to everyone's benefit, tax-wise.
