What would you rather own?
Give GM a break. Anyone with half a brain knew the ad was deceptive. Anyone who used the ad to buy an Escalade was going to anyway and just wanted an excuse!
Thanks for the explanation. I knew it was a discontinued model but did not realize it was an earlier generation and supercharged.
Good to hear the Clubman S gets better mileage. If I got mid 20s in the city and mid 30s on the freeway I would be happy.

Better order your anti-delerium medicine, 29/36 mpg is pretty normal for most Clubman owners. Many get 40+ on highway trips.
For a smaller car, you'd need to go from 30 to 50 mpg to get a similar proportional fuel savings.
The question shouldn't be why GM selected the MINI for comparison, it should be why the MINI cabriolet gets such lousy mileage!
Not quite, at least not in our first 600 miles. We drove our 09 Clubman home on the interstate from the dealership for a hour averaging over 70 and got 36mpg. We have about 600 miles on it now and it is averaging 33.8 around town. Ours is a manaul non s. Then again, we are a mile above sea level in CO and I'm sure it would do better at sea level.
What does the 09 MINI Cabrio get? All they have at fueleconomy.gov is the JCW model. We can't say that the 09 Cabrio gets lousy mileage until we actually see some numbers.
Only in part.....they must have plucked out at numbers w/o even knowing what they were talking about. In this case they were dumb. Or they did it to obfiscate/confuse....which would be deceptive (there are several twists of logic in the ad). Either way, I still cry foul on the ad...not that I'm mad about it, it just discredits them massively.
Oh, I agree....those are shameful numbers for a MINI. New coupe owners haven't seen those numbers in two years, it's hard to imagine they still exist! Too bad the cabrio couldn't have received the engine update sooner, but such was the product cycle of the cabrio....then again, some folks got one last chance at the first gen car which is good.
As for the '09 cabrio (which will finally have the new engine), I suspect the official mpg #s will be similar to the existing Clubman, and GM won't be able to try this silly stunt again

It'll finally have the new engine like the coupe and Clubman....we know it does quite well in real world driving. Cheap shot from the ad folks, oh well.

Well if they are going to base their claims on it being a hybrid vehicle then they should compare it to a hybrid vehicle......for some reason I don't think they want to compare mileage numbers with a Prius. I too think it is a very flawed and deceptive ad and GM should be ashamed. And no I am not an anti GM person. Most of the vehicles I have owned in the past have been GM products.
They compared mpg numbers with an '08 cabrio S, probably automatic......the '08 coupe and the '08 Clubman all have the new, more fuel-efficient engine....the coupe has had it for over two years!!! For '09 the cabrio will, too. Then automatic cabrio Ss will be getting upper 20s city and Coopers in the mid 30s city.....and GM's ad will be so pathetically sad.
Note the ad pushed the hybrid, but then presents the price of the non hybrid....too bizarre. Maybe such quick double-talk works w/ some folks....sad.

I'm very happy with my 25 mpg in the city and 21 mpg when driving it extremely aggressive.
I have even been able to squeeze 32 mpg on long highway trips.
But who cares.. My cabrio makes sweet music when that supercharger whines up and blows away any Escalade.
I didn't buy it for the gas mileage I bought it because its a mean Dragon running machine that doubles as the ultimate sun-tanning machine.
NOTE: 4 out of 5 women surveyed rather go for a ride in my MINI than in an Escalade.
Personal results may vary upon demographics and materialistically inclined attitudes.

Let me get this straight...
a bunch of us are upset because an avertiser used something that was technically acurate yet misleading in a TV commercial? Where have you all been? Isn't the point of TV adds to sway opinion by any means that's leagal? Is this news? Is it even a surprise?
At an automotive journalists event, I drove one of the new Dodge/Chrysler full sized SUV hybrids. Drove it like normal, 13.6 MPG. Drove it "careful" about 18.5... And that was some pig with a 5.7L hemi mill under the hood.
While the MCSC auto isn't built any more, you can probably find some new on dealer lots if you looked. The add didn't claim the SUV got better mileage than ALL mini coopers.....
And for all you big three haters, full sized pick-ups are still the top two selling light vehicles in the US, with about a half million of each the F150 and the Silverado... More than Civic, Camrys, Accords or whatever. Instead of crapping all over the big three, maybe we should be looking at the buying public.
Anyway, why all the hostility? Facts are facts.... Even if they are cherry picked!

The sad part is that people buy them. I see Escalades everywhere here. After doing some browsing on GM's website, there is nothing on a Cadillac you can't get on the Tahoe or Avalanche. So you just spent 20,000 dollars for a badge and different lights. I don't think I'll ever understand that.
Oh well the only Caddy I ever wanted was a '63 convertible anyway.
