I don't know if this helps or not. But when I was test driving a MINI in Winston-Salem, NC. I saw a flyer that said the extended maintanence plan was 1495$ extra. I may be wrong... since it was just a glimpse.
Just start calling around, any MINI dealer can sell it to you. I bought one some years back for my BMW E46 M3 and the local dealers I called varied by almost $500! There is a wholesale price for the extension and the dealer is free to mark it up and it can be a high profit item for them.
I guess I'm lazy and didn't want to call the numerous dealerships around the US and haggle with each one to find their lowest price. I figured some people knew what they ended up with and could help me by providing the dealership and price.
When I was shopping for same some time earlier this year, I remember a post saying someone at, I believe, Peabody Mini would sell the extended maintenance contract for $1395. It was going to require sending a key via FedEx, as they had to read the mileage in order to write the contract.
With this info, I went to my local dealer and told them "Another dealer is willing to sell me this for $1395; I want the same deal." We walked out the door with the extended maintenance contract for $1395.
Among our paperwork was one piece that I believe was a printout of an internal MINI website that was not meant for us. On it was stated the dealer cost for the extended maintenance contract: $1295.
Since it's easy to sell, we found our local dealer willing to do the tiny bit of work to make $100. The contract is honored by all MINI dealers, so it doesn't really matter where you buy it.
I suggest telling your local dealer you expect to pay $1395 and see what happens.

$1,395 plus 6.5% sales tax. Lauderdale MINI. Ask for Marc Holstberg, MINI service advisor. I bought mine in August 2007 and so far it has paid nearly $4K worth of maintenance and covered repair of brakes and clutch consumables.

I'm in atlanta and the dealer first said 1695. I called around that night and found prices between 1395 and 2385. I went back to the dealer and got it for 1400. He also said the dealer cost is 1300. You can get it at any dealer up to the point the standard coverage is up. I don't know if the cost will go up as the car gets older.
Yes. They do charge tax! Going through the various threads on this topic, I am inclined on getting the extended maintenance contract.
But I am confused about the extended WARRANTY. My dealer is pitching these, offered through a third party. Any thoughts on if these are worthwhile?

Reason I ask is in 2004 when I extended the scheduled mtce on my R53 from 3/36 to 4/50 for $500, no sales tax was charged because it (was) considered a "service," and not a "material" item....
could be. when I inquired about the xtended mtce for my new car, it was the same thing: the price ($1395) was added on at the very end of the sales bill (after all sales taxes) because it is a service.
(if my R56 is a keeper--unlike my R53 shop queen that ate LuKs for lunch--I'll prob do this)

just a head's up
Also, check the mileage on extended service contracts - some of the $595/695 prices we were seeing a year or so ago were to extend to 60k miles...the more expensive ones I believe are to 100k.
Set aside a savings bank account for "Unexpected repairs post-warranty". Don't waste your money on aftermarket extended warranty contracts. Most of them are not worth the paper they are printed on.
Unfortunately BMW/MINI does not sell factory extended warranty contracts like Ford or GM does. However, they do in Europe...go figure!
If you don't get to use the money, it is yours for whatever your future needs might be (And you get the interest too).
I got the MINI Extended Service contract because:
I drive at least 15K miles a year
I plan to keep my 2005 MCS for a very long time
I prefer the dealer doing all basic maintenance stuff
I get to pre-pay for future maintenance at today's prices
I am not DIYer, don't have the time, place, skill and tools to do my own servicing.
The contract covers the entire clutch kit, dual mass flywheel, brakes, rotors, engine belts, oil changes, etc. Not a bad deal for $1,400
Adds resale value to the car and it is fully transferable to a second owner at no extra charge.
So far, my $1,395 has returned nearly $4,000 worth of repairs and service:
New rear brakes and rotors
45K mile pit stop service
Brand new clutch and dual mass flywheel (A $2,500 value at dealer labor rates) installed just a month ago.
Next pit stop is at 60K miles. The contract will cover for my oil change, front brake pads/rotors and engine belts.
I am pretty happy with the contract and highly recommended, that is, if you drive a lot of miles per year and plan to keep your car for a long time.
For the rest not covered by the MINI Maintenance contract.... I have set aside an interested bearing savings bank account for the unlikely event of a high repair bill.
