It was raining scrap metal.....!!

I had an unfortunate experience driving up the 400 hwy just a few minutes north of Toronto yesterday. The traffic was pretty heavy and I could not see which vehicle the chunks of metal flew off of. All I could see was 3-4 large chunks of metal flying at my freshly waxed and detailed mini. Luckily I think, I took one of the pieces in the windshield only. To my amaze there was no damage to the body of the car. I heard 3 lound bangs and thought I would have a few big holes in the body. I think some of the cars next to me must have taken the other few pieces. Luckily there was no real accident. Someone could have easily swerved and created a massive car pile-up.

Anyway, I'm in the market for a new winshield. I noticed that my 2005 mini was ordered with a GREEN STRIPE WINDSHIELD. What is that? Likely that's a sun strip I can see in my attached pic?? Any suggestions on purchasing a new windshield.

That must have been loud.

And yeah, it's the sun strip thing.

Make sure you get your insurance to pay for the window to be replaced by BMW and not some cheap mobile repair company.

I never ceases to amaze me how haulers (of all sizes) get away with the devistation they sometimes cause. I have seen some realy, really scary dangerous things....and these dopes just drive off totally oblivious. Tie the stuff down morons!!!!!

Do you really think I'd need to go back to a dealer for a proper repair / replacement?, I'm 2 hrs away from the closest mini dealer. We do however have a reputable auto glass repair shop in town (Standard Auto Glass). My father is an insurance broker so yes I'll likely have it covered by my auto insurance company, Farmers Ins. I think? One more claim to bring down paps yearly commissions.

I just need to wait until monday to find out what I'll have to pay as the "deductible"

A few minutes after the scrap metal shower I did passed 2 old looking SCRAP METAL trucks on the hwy. Seems likely but because I did not see anything I could not be sure. One had open barrels of junk in the back and they did not seem to be secured very well. I'm just hoping that one of the cars that where further up the hwy would have taken down a plate # and reported it.

Going to have to figure out how to bullet proof my car. Winter is also bad around here. Everyone likes to leave a foot of ice on their trunks. It's like dodging large death cookies as piece after piece of snow / ice break off. Try to get away from them and you get a speeding ticket, you never win.

Safe driving!

I've heard that you can do better than an OEM replacement, and that PPG windshields are less prone to cracking and chipping.

Arrrrhhhhh!!!!! So much for the insurance claim, my deductible is $500! Now I'm really upset Likely the cost of the replacement will be the same as my deductible, ingenious business design!!
