How about a MINI Pickup?

I think someone had a MINI pickup in another post, but it was based on the hatchback. What about one based on the Clubman?

Here is a very crude photoshop (have never used photoshop before, but it was on my Mac). I like it, might even buy one if they built it.

If one of you more talented photoshoppers wants to improve this, that would be great. I got the photo off the Miniusa web site.

Wouldn't be surprised if this isn't being looked at. And a good PS job for a novice.

I think a pickup would be an abomination, but then I think the same about the upcoming crossover and am not particularly fond of what they did with the Clubman either. And I'm sure Mini would take a long hard look at Chevy's absymal failure with the SSR before heading down this road.

Soapbox: Personally, I think car companies need to stop trying to be all things to all people, but once they invest huge sums to develop a brand, there is a natural tendency to try and milk it for every possible drop of profit by extending it into markets where it has no business being. I'd like to see a stretched four-door sports sedan, possibly with an AWD option, but I'm sure their bean counters say otherwise.

It may not be a big seller in the U.S. but a Mini ute for the Aussie market might work. They have a Pontiac G8 ute that El Camino fans are drooling over.

I would buy one.

Doing interesting things along the various axes of characteristics that are the MINI is not being "all things to all people." To some, the mere resurrection of Mini as MINI was itself an abomination. Call me a heretic, but I'd also be amused to see a MINI take on the MINI-van, too. But only if it still looks like a clown car.

I kid because I LOVE.

I've never done photo shop so I have to stick to regular pictures. Here's my version of a mini pickup. For some reason I like the color choice you came up with.

One would definitely be parked in our garage!! You thinkg they'd cut the price in thirds because of the loss of materials??

I'm in! A properly sorted MINI pickup would be great.

I've had 2 VW Rabbit based pickups in the past and they were both absolutely terrific and I hauled everything imaginable with them - I even moved cross country with one of them.

If they build it, I will come.................

flyinlow - that's a good job! I'd buy one to add to my fleet. It's not like it would be a new concept for Minis - take a look at gasmini03's pic as perfect example (again, and always, i love that truck!) I kinda take the tack that it wouldn't be "all things for all people" but ...although I can pack a serious load in my MCS hatchback, it WOULD be nice to just chuck some things in the "bed" of a MINI and go, without worrying about "is it dripping? is it making a mess?" Instead of revving up my big old truck to do the hauling.

Pontiac may be coming with that model if they get enough money from us tax payers.

Does anyone know anybody that works for Mini? We should send them a link to this.

I'm glad someone posted a pic of the classic Mini pickup, I knew they made one, that's what made me think of it and the Clubman would be the right base for it.

count me in, esp. if it's built on the AWD system that shares with the new crossover. Classic Minis had a PU version, why not the new??

Many years ago (early '70's) when I was in Britain, I saw a Mini stake-side flatbed pickup. Oak decking and side stakes. I loved it. Totally unique and oh, so cool. Would make one out of a MINI pickup in a New York minute.

Really effing fast!

BTW, Flyinlow, good job on the Photo Shop. It is probably a concept that is at least being looked at.

MINI is in a brilliant spot to become a manufacturer for all types. Rover had a lot of cars based on the original Mini. The clubman, traveller, cabrio, moke, and midas. They were all pretty cool. Companies like Lamborghini do just fine with limited number supplies. The General doesn't do so well due to poor management and marketing. The only way to save our American car market is for GM and Ford to just suck it up and merge, then take some capital and buy Chrysler. Reorganize and restructure and just become a powerhouse in the automotive world. getting back on topic, The pickup would be great and there would be a great deal of interest in one. I would definitely buy one if it were available. The cabrio was a hit, and the clubman seems to be taking on a following. A pickup might just be a good thing. We all know Toyota has always wanted to be like BMW, and when BMW started MINI, Toyota would have to soon follow. Their plan was to bring a couple of odd looking vehicles from Japan and market them. BMW probably plans to follow suit, except we get great engineered cars, where as the scion folks are getting rebadged econo-boxes. BMW could definitely turn MINI into a variety brand, as long as they plan it out right.

Unless you are very short your feet will stick out the back door of the camper. Believe me I've tried laying down in the bed of my mini pickup and my feet still hang off the end of the tailgate and I'm only 6'.
