Suzuki SX4 -vs - MC
I saw the commercial a few days ago and laughed at first, but then I though about it...
First like some one said SX4 is purely a point A to point B car, while mini is and experience. However, standard navigation, and AWD are nice. Also I think its cargo capacity is slightly better.
Some people have noted that it's a crossover and should not be compared to a mini. Its is not a cross over, they just call it that.
I live in Chicago (potholes and snow) and I drive a 07 MCS (prior to that had an 05 MCS),my mom has a 4 door toyota yaris which I picked for her given her budget and great mpg (my mom only looks at the color when buying a car and for the rest relies on my opinion). I really wanted her to get a Matrix for its versatility, but it was out of her price range.
Now the current SX4 looks like a good option for her...not for me though.I have a spirited driving style (as evident by all the speeding tickets I have).
now just for fun
its not the sx4 but another suzuki, but still fun to see a justa cooper beat it on a track

I thought that the SX4 was our watered down version of the Swift. Can anyone verify this? Hmmm. lemme google....
Meh... SX4 is based on Swift. Oh well. Wishful thinking

I may have to take the wing off, other than that, I'm good.
Oh - and add a/c. And maybe some sound deadening. And a radio.
Heck, by the time I'm done, I'll have an '06 MCS. Which may be why I already HAVE one.

I don't think the add is really trying to steal MINI drivers/potential MINI drivers as much as give people who may want a MINI but can not afford one another option; and make them feel as though they are getting a car that is just as good or better. So, like every car add, they throw comparisons that really don't mean anything to make you think their car is better. Like the SX4 has 143hp and the MINI only has 118hp. Suzuki is hoping people perceive more power is better; when in reality the MINI has a better 0-60mph time and a higher top speed. That is what commercials do, try to make people think their product is better, and hope people don't do actual research.
What I don't understand why car companies continue to run adds that directly compare themselves to other companies that are accepted as being superior. This tactic is generally proven to not work and actually asserts peoples views that the product they are comparing to is better.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this before.
We have both of them.
The reason we got the SX4 is because the
clubman and proposed SAV has only 4 seatbelts.
The SX4 is a really nice car for somebody that
"likes the look and feel of the mini" but needs
5 seatbelts.
Also historically, British and German manufacturers
have had some serious quality issues. This still
scares people away. One subtle point of the commerical
(In my opinion) is "look, see, you can have a MINI, but
with Japanese reliability"

I LOVE MY MINI and the SX4 is NO MINI.
But it's a very good car for the money. One year ago my GF needed a new car and after doing weeks of research for a car that fit HER needs we looked at 3 and drove home an SX4 sedan.
After one year and 12,000 miles I wanted to chime in about this issue.
It's no MINI and it's a shame that Suzuki tried to compare the SX4 to the MINI when it's really no better then a MINI, but is much better then many other cars in that price range.
In the last year the SX4 was been perfect, not a single issue of any kind. It's well built, well designed, fit and finish are nice and it's FUN to Drive. Not MINI Fun to Drive, but more Fun to Drive then many other cars in the price range.
Whether around town or on a road trip it's been a great car. If I had to replace my MINI with another car that wasn't a MINI and didn't plan to Autocross it I'd get an SX4.
