I wonder if I put on the kuda mount in
bright letters (done nice of course)
"GPS removed from car"
would that matter to meth dude?

In my mind there is no clear concensus here.
It's everything from be prepared to have your
car broken into at random at anytime, to
don't worry be happy.

It does remind me of a funny story though.
I knew a guy in HS had his radio stolen.
This is in the old days when a radio was kinda expensive.
He puts another one it, but he wired the entire behind
his dashboard with fishing line and those hooks with
3 sides. He goes outside one morning the car actually
I think it was an old ford truck, had been broken into.
The radio was still there but there was blood all over
the inside floor.

I doubt this method works in the day of the hyper meth dude world.

ps my wife has had a streetpilot at least 4 years.
I never tire of watching the map move along.

It's legal in the bottom driver's side corner...I forget the numbers, but it's either a 4-inch or 7-inch square box in the corner that's legal for permits and "other items". This is where my suction cup mount is located. I like it there because it's out of the way but easily visible. Plus, it was very easy to route the cable there, tucked behind the door seals and between the A-pillar and the dash.

I rarely take mine down. I do if I'm somewhere I know is high risk, or somewhere I'm very unfamiliar with, but 99% of the time it stays up.

Here is the vehicle code:

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc26708.htm

Drivers side is a 5" square and very bottom left corner and it is mainly for stickers. A friend of mine's son is a policeman in Palo Alto and I asked him and he said if you mount a GPS or Radar detector anywhere on your windshield you are in violation of the vehicle code and are subject to a ticket. Only real physical thing allowed is an EasyPass for tolls mounted above the rearview mirror. If you look at the boxes for most GPS it even says mounting on windshield with suction mount in CA and MN is illegal.

Do at your own risk.

I've had my kuda for a few months now, even been to Miami and back with it!

I haven't had any issues and like most others here I throw the GPS in the secret comparment when I'm not using it.

I used the instrucitons found somewhere here on NAM and only added in the slot I drilled to run the power cable up and out through the mounting surface of the mount. The little ring that covers the screws for the ball cover it completly. Honestly with the way it's made and how it integrates with the dash it doesn't look that aftermarket unless you know what you're looking at in the first place.

I went with the suction cup mount option for a while but was told by a cop friend of mine, may be complete BS as I haven't looked it up, that anything that restricts your view of a cars stock gauges is a ticketable offense. I was going to install the kuda anyway so this didn't really have any bearing on my decision.

I'm thinkin OK better not go to OH.

Now, my friend here says
DO YOU READ THE PAPER
I say, uh, no.
You can't even go to taco bell now and you come out

So I really want the kuda mount and all, but I don't want
to buy a window every week.

Thumbs up or down to installing the garmin on the kuda?
I made one using a Garmain part, works great ... http://tiermini.com/?p=108

I went from the suction cup on the speedo to the Kuda mount for my Nuvi 660. Most of the time if I'm not in the car, I hang my hat and sunglasses over the Nuvi (protects it from the sun, and keeps me from sitting on another pair of sunglasses). If I'm really paranoid I pop the Nuvi into the secret compartment (and put the hat and sunglasses on the mount).

I've also got a ScanGauge II and the remote head for a ham radio mounted to the lower Kuda mount, and those are always visible.

"GPS removed from car"
Do you think meth-heads are likely to read past the first word?

I am looking for a smart phone mount as it's also my GPS and am considering the Kuda mount that goes on the dash to the left (driver's side) of the speedo. The installation instructions do not depict a car with the secret compartment. Does anyone know how to remove the piece of trim under the compartment door?

TIA

Richard

I'm pretty sure no one on meth will be able to figure out my Nuvi mount when I remove the bracket.

Well if you look at the updated code, it says.....

12) A portable Global Positioning System (GPS), which may
be mounted in a 7-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield
farthest removed from the driver or in a 5-inch square in the lower
corner of the windshield nearest to the driver, if the system is used
only for door-to-door navigation while the motor vehicle is being
operated and outside of an airbag deployment zone.

I've misplaced the link without the senate and assembly and governor approval BS, the state only updates it's CVC annually at best (still has 2007 update status).

Has the governor actually signed this into law? Neither of the links you give shows he has put it into law yet. I don't doubt you but it does not show that he has signed. Also, does it go into effect immediately or some other date like Jan 1st like most laws.
