Ding!

Last night at around 3 am.... crash! Wife and I bolt upright in bed. Intruder? The doberman downstairs isn't barking...so probably not.

I go investigate, and it's my cat trapped in the garage. He tumbled over a tall lamp onto my car. It now has a door ding sized ding on the driver side of the bonnet (on the downslope).

Bet the cat didn't even have insurance either. Or did he just deny it or try to blame it on the dog?

Take it to the PDR guy and have them check it out. Some of them don't like to work on double walled bonnets like the ones on the MINI, others are unafraid of the challenge. I had a ding in a similar location on my bonnet, and the PDR guys here took care of it for me for 65$ and you can't tell it was ever there.

Dent repair guy comes tomorrow morning. Cross fingers for me that he can get it done.

After that I'll have to deal with the scratch in the clear coat. It didn't make it through to the paint. Any suggestions on that?

PDR guy came. He saw. He fixed my dent.

There is remaining only the original scratch in the clearcoat (surface scratch) and a tiny little spot where the inside of the dent would have been.

The scratches don't actually touch the paint under the clearcoat... so I'm not sure what my next step should be. Looks like that system linked above is more for chips of the actual paint.

Btw -- it cost $100. But that was a small price to pay for me not to look at the dang dent every time I came out of my house.

Delighted the dent got fixed so quickly. Not sure what to do about the scratch so with any luck someone with a lot more knowledge than me will respond.

This did wonders on my wife's 8 year old VW.
For the scratches in the clearcoat.

Did you read on the provided link? It works on clear.....

your option is to wet sand the clear and then buff.....if you screw THAT up you are in a corner. The Langka system you can redo 20 times with no foul, 'cept you might run out of the stuff.

Most use Langka to deal with a chip and need to fill color and the description talks to one step t/u paint. But all cars built today come with a base/clear paint system so many times - like with MINI - when you buy 'factory' t/u paint you get a bottle of color and one of clear. The site offers suggestions on how to use these and then use the system to clean up the blob....

An Uninsured Feline claim... haven't had one of those at my office yet.
I'll have to take a recorded statement from the cat. Wonder how that'll turn out ?
