Whats the 1st year a mini cooper came out? Not the very 1st ones, but the new generartion? 1998? 99?00?

I was gonna say 2002 to but 2001 would make sense also because of how they put the next years model out a few months ahead of time.

 

Yes, in the United States, but that was not the official launch. The original post was correct. The One and Cooper began production and was sold in 2001 in some markets in Europe.

 

So basically 2002 for North America I believe.

 

Wait, there are places outside the US?!? haha, yes, sorry 2001 for Europe, 2002 in the US.

The Mini Cooper actually came out in 1959, in England and the Queen of England got to drive it:-)It was built by BMC(British Motor Company), in 1999/2000was bought by BMW:-) and introduced to the US:-)

 

Newer MINIs came out in 2002 here , launched March 22nd . 2001 in Europe.

The MINIs which went on sale March 22, 2002 were all pre-spec'd. Customer spec production began the end of May 2002.

 

Heh, I think I saw that green one right around that time. They brought it over to Moffett Field on a trailer with an old Mini. Probably to do some photography nearby the interesting stuff they had (and still have!) over there. Things like Hangar 1, some of the research aircraft, a wind tunnel model of the Space Shuttle, various wind tunnels, and so on.

 

My first was an Austin Mini, first reg'd in 1964, CHK546B. Bought it in 1968 in the UK and imported it into the US that same year. 848CCs of pure fun with twin SUs!

 

Blast from the past, remember those days.
