So I went to go purchase a MINI today...
I bought mine off the showroom floor. The only two options I didn't get that I would have gotten had I ordered was Xenon lights and the convenience locking (not sure if that is part of the convenience package)
Because of my inability to be patient, I can live without those two items... everything else I love.
I have since decided that I want the JCW Stage I kit but since it's taking so long for Mini to release the automatic version, perhaps that would have been the only reason I would have ordered one.

So I'm offically a "lot buyer"... Picked up my silver MCS on Saturday and I'm loving it!
Can't find enough 90 degree turns to take at 50 MPH... hahaha...
No arm rest though! So far I've seen only one Mini since I got mine and I waved with no response...

Lot Buyer or not the important thing here is that you got what you were looking for.
I don't think there is ever really enough turns, even when I go to the Dragon there doesn't seem to be enough.
(318 curves in 11 miles).

Only 266 more days till MOTD 2009...
I bought mine off the lot and I wave.
I could not afford a brand new one so I spent 8 months looking for what I wanted. I looked online but always called prior to going to dealers since they sell so quick. One time I was on my way to the dealer and it sold by the time I got there. I finally found my 2005 Mini named Christine in Feb. She was worth the wait.

I ordered mine............with the center arm rest.
Sure it seems like the office coffee boy designed it, not fitting the quality of the rest of the car, but I make use of it at times (though not while driving of course!) and would rather have it than not have it.

I am a lot buyer as well. But there was a reason, I needed a car that day. My old bonneville had finally gone far enough that it needed to be retired. I hope it's sitting in some nice old lady's garage right now, just resting and taking her the mile and a half to the gracery store only once a week. So point is that there may be OTHER circumstances that prevent one from ordering their MINI. But i do like the "adopted" idea; Winston is kind of like a mutt from the pound. But he had all but one of the features i would have liked (the USB iPod, but he came with the aux in - i'll settle), and no fleas, so I took him home.
Raven of Skys - do you ever think about Christine's Past life? Who was she when the previous owner had her? So any other used MINI buyers think of these things? Ya know, who were they and what were they called previously?
That's a whole other thread. You should ask this in a new thread on the general mini talk forum, I'd love to see what folks had to say on this.
I'm a "lot buyer" and perferctly happy about it because I had no choice if was to get what I wanted. I make a long story short, my previous car was nicely modded (in my opinion) but my wife hated it. She said I could get a new car but unless it came from the factory with it, I couldn't have it - no mods. So, given that I wanted the supercharged version AND the JCW package, I could only get a 2006, and it was already 2008. So after about 4 weeks of looking I found one only 1000 miles away at a private seller with only 4800 miles on it. It has everything I wanted with the exception of the contrast roof but I've acutally grown to love the body colored roof just because its different. The only thing I wish it did have was the aero kit, but the english panther leather sort of makes up for it. Every day I walk to my car I can't believe its mine, after only 5 years of yearning...
So am I a lot buyer or just a MINI adopter? Here's my MINI story...
Had played with the configurator countless times and been to the dealer to nail down the remaining open ended questions... like color, MC or MCS, seats, etc. I knew from the get go that to get the MINI I wanted I would need to order and was all set to do so when my MA suggested checking inventory of other dealers to see if a MINI matching my specs had already been built. I was game cuz I didn't really want to wait though I was willing to if need be. My MA ended up finding a MINI that had just arrived at the VDC ... which was almost identical to my specs except for the Convenience Package. Since she did have the MFSW and USB which were must haves I decided to go for it. (The only reason I was going to get the Convenience Package was because it seemed to make sense fiscally speaking.... you know resale value.) So though I didn't get instant gratification I was able to lessen my wait by 2 weeks or so.
And I always wave. Even when the other Mini is too far away for the driver to see me.
Oh... and I don't have an armrest either.

Congrats!! I hear ya about about the turns. I love the cloverleafs around here.
Heh... Thanks! Totally loving the car... I've only had the car now coming up on 3 weeks and I've already racked up 1500 miles on it... Essh! I drive too damn much... heh...
As far as waving, I've only had one Mini owner wave back since I've gotten it....
