Hey guys, let me start of with an apology for probably posting this in the wrong section. The general MINI talk sections gets the most hits, so I'd figure, the gurus can help me out much quicker. I have a 04 MCS running halogen lights (non xenons). I'm not really looking to retrofit a 05+ project head light kit because I'd figure it would be too complicated for me (the programming and re-wiring) and expenses it involves. Instead I seeked an alternative. A conversion kit. I was looking on eBay and saw different conversion kits, some as cheap as 25$ and some as much as 300$. I landed on this one, and it has a nice diagram that displayed instructions even a modest modder like me can follow and perform.

My question is, are all conversion kits that simple? Is there any specific type of detail/accessory in a kit I should look for? How many kelvins for the HIDs looks good but not ricey? Is there a kit that anyone would recommend? I'm not looking to spend more than 200$ for a conversion kit unless it is absolutely necessary. Thanks for all feedback. Highly appreciated.

 

Kits for xenons are all horrible. They usually spread the light everywhere and not focused like a true focused HID. The kits are notorious for blinding other drivers. I hope that you didn't go for the 8000K lites. The higher kelvin number doesn't mean more light. The 8000k lights are actually dimmer than your stock halogens. The other con with the kits are that they are not street legal. They are nice because of plug and play but a true conversion retrofit is infinitely better than those kits. Some kits have cheap ballasts. etc. etc. etc. etc. YMMV.

go to HIDplanet.com and do research there.

For the kit it is simple plug in the existing housing and tap in to existing wires. With that kit, you will lose your high beams. It isn't a bi-xenon kit.
