Not getting a sense of a MINI community on the road
Actually I go to Mini of Boston for service. With a new Mini and free service for 3 years it gives me a day in Boston to have fun. It's only about 55 miles so if I leave the house at 6am I am at the dealer at 7am when they open and then i walk down to the Boston Common and have breakfast, take in some sightseeing, then walk up Newbury Street do some window shopping, get ideas for christmas projects etc. and back to the dealer mid afternoon and off I go to get home before the rush multi hour traffic.
Yes,
Great folks there. Mark in service has been great, not that i needed any major or minor service and Rich (MA) has been in touch a number of times "Just Checking in to see if everything is OK."
On the other hand when i visited Mini of Peabody i expressly told the MA i wanted a Standard Transmission. After three time of being told the Automatic is better and the very heavy push for me to take one i left there never to return or return the MA calls.

PS your wife has awesome taste in shoes, too!
Ok so i have had my MINI for exactly 1 1/2 weeks now!!! I have waved to every single MINI that i see, and not one single wave back! I am so disappointed! Doesn't anyone in the East side of Pa want to share the happiness????
If you up in mass we are all very friendly up here. Well most of us anyway.
I missed a wave today
. I was checking out my mileage and my husband started berating me about what an awful Mini owner I am -- seems a Red Mini drove past in the opposite direction two lanes over and waved at me, and I didn't see him.
So if you drive a Red Mini (I'm assuming Chili Red) and waved at a Laser Blue Clubman who didn't respond...I'M SORRY!!!
I really wish I had seen the wave!

Seems all these "where'd the wave go??" threads end up sounding the same...I, too, am disappointed when I don't get acknowledgement. It's not that other MINIsts HAVE to wave back, but it sure is friendly, and it sure makes my day knowing there are other crazies out there!
I'm sorry, but I'll have to agree - waving back is just common courtesy, no matter what you drive. I always wave to bikers - I have so many friends with bikes, I love them myself, and nowadays, they're the most likely (and safest) candidates to pull over to help you when stranded on the road.
ANYWAY...I've taken to putting a few motoring badges on my big F150 Super Crew near the driver's side door/mirror area - just to let MINIsts know WHY I'm waving particularly to THEM!
On some of the motoring badges threads, I've suggested one that says, "WARNING: Waves at other MINIs!" At least then they'll have warning!
I'm Feeling the love again.
Went for a drive last night to show mini01770 how the OEM Roof Racks fit on a clubman and went thru a number of small towns in Massachusetts.
I saw 4 Mini's on my drive and three waved back the fourth she was on the phone with one hand and steerring around a corner with the other so she had no way to wave. My thought "get off the phone and wave".
I also did another test thru the town of Bolton MA (its busy during rush hour) and I waved at other motorists in other makes of vehicles. I did not count but there were more than 60 cars i waved at and two waved back the rest just looked at me like i was a psychopath. But hey i made them think something. That makes me feel good. Maytbe they will even tell the story of how some strange man in a car was waving at everyone.
Question: Am I a psychopath for waving at people?

"psychopath: A person with an antisocial personality disorder, manifested in aggressive, perverted, criminal, or amoral behavior without empathy or remorse"
Probably just friendly, and quite possibly car crazy!
As an ex biker with 125k miles on two continents I can relate....
Definitely not a psychopath. I think it's great! Makes people wonder what you're up to, and that's just plain FUN...besides...adds to the allure of the MINI: "WHAT is that person doing?? Is he/she waving at ME? Why? Man, he/she seems to be having a lot of fun in that thing. What kind of car IS that? Hm...I HAVE to know!?!?"
Were you driving in a white pickup on 20 a month or so ago? Daphne and I got a very enthusiastic wave from a younger lady.
On the downside, Rick and I were going to Happy Hour North on Tuesday and saw a new Nightfire Red/NR. Very nice... but even though I didn't quite hang out the window and wave him down the driver wouldn't even look at us!

NOPE!!! I waved and gave a thumbs up to a Chili Red Coupe on the interstate yesterday, even though I was riding as a passenger in my husband's Civic. It was on the same side of town as the Chili Red wave I missed on Wednesday, so I was hoping maybe it was the same Chili Red and he might recognize me in my Honda disguise and I could redeem myself from not seeing him when he waved at me in my Clubman.
I do think he saw me, but didn't have time to process what in the world was going on before we were past him
.

I have a theory. The new MINI's are still too new and they are not quite so rare. Maybe we need to spend some time behind the wheel of these cars and sort out the long-termers from the short-termers?
Once the car ages to a point of being a classic, the waves will be a definite "YAH"...for now, we're funky, but we're not classic yet...

i wave at them all. unfortunatly i dont get many in return. its not like the jeep thing where everyone waves. I dont think its because there are to many of them cause there are a lot more jeeps then mini on the road and they all do it. oh well i will keep waving cause i like to and *&^% the ones that dont wave back
I wave to every Mini I pass and about 75% of the owners wave back at me. It's sort of a nice thing and sort of makes my day when I get a wave. There is a guy who lives down the street from me with BRG Cooper who I see every morning on the way to work. We always exchange a headlight flash or a wave if the weather is nice and the windows are down.
ok - i finally got a wave the other evening on the way home from work. It was the same color as mine but hard top.
The guy really had no choice but to wave, I saw him checking out my car as we passed and i smiled so big and flapping my arm and he raised his hand basicly mid window and did a really quick palm flash! I don't care -that is my first wave!!! He looked almost ashamed to wave or something...oh well.

On the way to work this morning I went 6 for 7 and I didn't initiate any of the waving ...except the for the one wave that wasn't returned.
Whoo Hoo
Lots of big smiles today ...in both directions.
