Take that deal while you can! I got married this past September, and I spent about 7k on a ring for the wifey... it's well worth the 1-time (hopefully) cost.

However, when you start asking the wife about getting a new HDTV for like $1500, they complain about how much money it is. "I bought you a $7000 ring woman! ... can't I get a TV?"

In all seriousness, congrats..... oh, and congrats on the engagement too

We need pics ... of the ring, JCW, and "old lady" --- to help with the decision.

Sounds like she's marrying for a ring and you're marrying for a Mini.

It's like a car, it isn't the initial purchase price but the ongoing maintenance that kills you!

lol...that's an interesting way to decide on getting married. if it doesn't work, does she get to keep the ring and you get to keep the car? better put that into the pre-nup while you're at it.

a nice big engagement ring could be open to anything.. as long as she didnt specify.. ie: gold, diamonds, silver.. so on and so forth..
So you could get her a nice new mini too.. and the ring.. make it a key ring! I am the original negotiator.. who always always looks for loopholes

I being a woman would much rather have a simple band and a awesome car...a diamond is worthless to me

supermancini If you look closely, her grin tells you she knows something you don't know. Like maybe that she's been reading on this forum too, and she knows that lots of wives end up with MINI's of their own because when they start asking to drive their husband's MINI, the husband ends up buying the wife one just so he can have his MINI to himself. AND, if that ends up being the case, then she will be one ring up on you in the end. Which doesn't mean she's not a keeper anyway!

I got the ring for her from my grandmother; she got the ring for me from her grandfather. No diamonds or jewels on either. 34 years later, I've got a MINI, she's got me, and we still have each other. Doesn't get any better than that.
