I HATE the phrase "justacooper"!
I must say that I agree with the OP on this....and I never use the term "justacooper" in any of my posts (well, that was the first time). There has traditionally been a distorted view of Coopers here on NAM due to the large numbers of MCS owners, but thankfully this has moderated to a large extent.
Fact is, though, "just" is slightly dismissive, although I understand the context in which the term originated and it was not used in that way at all. However, times change, folks come and go, and I can see where the term would leave some bewindered. In any case, I still will not ever use the term.

i like justacooper. guess it depends on your personality. i'm more of the quiet, humble, bashful variety that likes to fly under the radar. i'll let those in MCS crowd get all the attention they desperately need.
i wouldn't mind being able to say i own a justaferrari or i'm justamillionaire, though.

Have you looked up team justacooper? Might give you a new outlook on the name. Also if you take a look at the MINI line as a whole, the ONE is the base cooper, so being justacooper, also means driving the factory hot rodded MINI. And isn't MINI all about being less anyways?

I was around when Dave coined it. As a matter of fact he came up with it because me and him finished 1-2 in class at a BMW Auto-X couple of years ago. It was his first event in his brand new JustaCooper and my first event ever. That was before they grouped all the Mini's in their own group so we beat quiet a few other cars. Both our times were faster than most MCS at the event and we were the only JustaCoopers.
As people have mentioned, the idea behind "justacooper" was that you could take a "slow" car, and by learning how to drive it, you could runt faster autocross / track times than the people in the "fast" version of the car who do not have the driving instruction to help them. Such people would come over after seeing how fast the "slow" car is, asking what you've done to the car to make it so fast, and you'd say "it's justacooper".
I get asked all the time when leading a rallye. "How do you make that thing go so fast" I can't take on an S on the interstate but I usually have a trail of them behind me on the twisties wanting to go with the little "JustaCooper"

HMM.... Justine actually earned her name as a result of being JustaCooper...
"MC" to me reminds me of EmmCee [Joel Grey in "Cabaret"]
or
MaC [like Big Mac or McDonalds]
i'm perfectly fine with JustaCooper.. i think more of you should embrace your Justacooperness... or trade up for an "S", and quit bitching

Purchase price was NOT a factor.
um, in performance it IS a trade up...
potatoe, potato
Since the car's name is actually a person's name, I prefer, in recognition of that fact, to call my MINI the name that is actually on the boot. I addition (and mind you I have no complaints whatsoever with the manner and context in which the justacooper name originally came about), the "just" part is often misleading as the Cooper is, in fact, a factory-tuned MINI One. Judging from that perspective (one which we over here understandably often forget) there is nothing "just" about it.
btw...this is all for the sake of discussion. As a 2-time Cooper owner I really don't care one way or the other.

Now that I have a problem with, because that makes the "S" the one that all others are measured by. That's like changing the rules in the middle of the game. He may "just" refer to it as an "S", but it still is technically a MINI Cooper S. It's brand name is MINI, it's model name is Cooper, and it has an "S" package. A "Justa Cooper" is not a "Not an S."
Different, but close. I didn't name her MS MINIVER for nothing.
Not necessarily true.....the One is actually a de-tuned Cooper. From the factory they would have the exact same performance.....but MINI has put a restriction on the ECU to limit the HP to receive better insurance rates. The second you remove the restriction, the cars are exactly the same (besides the possible roof color and a few chrome pieces).
