I don't know how far north you are planning on going up Hwy 1, but I would like to suggest a route to get you inland. Take Hwy 1 to just north of Point Arena (Mendocino County) to Mountain House Rd. Mountain House will end in Boonville. Head south of town to Hwy 253 and head east to Ukiah/Hwy 101. From there, head south on Hwy 101 to Hopland and take Hwy 175 east to Lakeport/Hwy 29. Hwy 29 south will then take you over Mt. Saint Helena into the Napa Valley.

I did the Hwy 1 to 101 route about a month ago (I had a work meeting on the coast). I can't wait until I have to go to Pt. Arena again.
