Motoring just for fun, Best driving roads in your areas, im in Maine.

Motoring, its what we were ment to do, but their are to many places that restrict our spirited driving nature. so we must find our own driving mecca, in and around boston is absoluelty deviod of any type of driving roads. thankfully i spend the summers in maine and in maine there are many curvey and windy roads to enjoy. i've found a couple of roads that are fun to drive. anyone eles in the York / Ogunquit area on here? it would be wicked fun to meet up and go venture out and find some roads to traverse. personally i have traversed a couple nice roads for spirited driving, nothing too crazy tho all within the limits of the law. I call this first one The Perkins Cove Run. its 6.17 miles of maine back road and coastal scenery at some points, it starts near my house and works its way up the map, the second, i call The Nubble Run, is almost 3 miles and is pretty nice, but can be infested with tourist sometimes. would Love to meet some other mini owners in southern maine and go for drives and or just chill, perferably people of my own age to get to "know"...and perferably chicks with minis (what? its summer ) but everyone else is welcome too. if anyone else knows any cool roads, try plotting them on google earth too and posting them up here.

Sorry this one is small for some reason, Edit: i have the full sized one in my gallery, its much bigger and you can see all the details.

Awesome. Not the Alps, but it sure looks nice from space. Can you attach the .kml file, so we can all load it, too?

Did you have GE plot it, or did you use a GPS to record the run? I use a Garmin 405 to record runs here.

Peter314: Well I'm a chick with a MINI! But, I bet I'm old enough to be your mother! Anyway, I've been going to the York/Ogunquit area for years. It's a beautiful drive...when it's not "infested with tourists". Next time I'm up that way I'll look for your MINI and wave!

Abuzavi i didnt use a gps, i went into google earth and plotted my course with the path tool, manually, but i do that all the time, i dont know, i just have this uncanny ability to reconize the roads and buildings from above, but google earth is awesome, especialy for this. i didnt know that you could record paths with gps's, maybe i'll look into that. as for the .kml file, i have no idea what that is or where i could find it. anything i did on google earth was temporary, i couldnt save those plotted courses.

Mcs06, it is nice up here for driving, much nicer than mass, right now is prime driving time because the season hasnt started up just yet. i'll be sure to keep a eye out for you and pretty much everyother Mini, i always wave , speaking of, i was driving right next to a laser blue/white R56 yesterday and we both had our windows down and we had a bit of a conversation, it was quite enjoyable and left me with a grin from ear to ear

While not from there, we have summered there at least 15 times in the last 25 years. Love the area ...like the Kennebunks too.

Curvy is the name of the game where we live!

We live in the NorthEast Mountains of Tennessee -North of the Great Smokey Mountains. We have some back roads here that rival the dragon!-We live on top of a mountain ,so going to town for bread is an exhilerating experience! Our mini loves her new home-20 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway!

you should deffinatly come to maine then!!! we owns these two hotels in york beach, so we have a place to stay, ive been throwing around the idea of a mini event in maine to my parents, itd be cool if we could do a special of some sort and have the whole place rented out for mini owners, it'd be soo cool looking out into the parking lot and seeing all of the minis. Nabeshin did you check out the pic in my gallery of what i call The Perkins Cove Run? if so im assuming your on your way? hahaha

Peter,
My fiance's family vacations up in Ogunquit and so she showed me around the area earlier in the year and we also stopped at the York lighthouse!

I plan on trying out your perkins cove run in the near future but a guide would be even better!

Nebraska Interstate...

...at least the speed limit is 75.

City of Lincoln's boring roads...
The only things that give this town any merit are, on and off ramps and the few traffic circles that are always devoid of traffic.

I had the pleasure of driving in the foothills of Tennessee once. It was my first time on real roads. I must admit I went a bit crazy, but no harm done.

Nabeshin is that were those pics with the flipped blue mini are from? i can relate, i flew mine into the forrest last year . but damn! wow, and i thought driving around the suburbs of boston were boring, at least we have corners to make use of the steering wheel sometimes. altho being perfectly flat all the time is better for fuel economy, i was just driving tonight through topsfield, a very hilly area, and it dropped to about 28mpg when i usally get 33 city and almost 40 highway, and this was all at like 50mph. anyways come on out to maine enjoy the drive and check out the beach too im pretty sure you dont have those there too lol.

Nabeshin,

Until you mentioned it above, it had never clicked in my head how boring the roads must be there. I drove from Denver to New York once years ago, and I remember how monotonous it was. I don't envy you having a MINI with no where to run. If only the police would cut you some slack and let you truly enjoy the straight open highways. But I suppose those kinds of places are called "Heaven!"

thanks, that's a good reason not to stop at Portsmouth...

I'll give it a try!

Usually I'm between Hampton and Portsmouth coming up the coast (just before dawn, to split the difference between the early risers that walk the road and the darkness!

This thread is about to be highjacked. I live within 400 ft of HWY one, nuff said. There are so many roads going east of this gorgeous roads road that the sum of them could be called a definition of infinity. I use HWY 84 between here and the other side of the hill for every thing, makes me smile.

Here's a random fun road. Lots of these along the Hudson river north of NYC.

I was in the York/Ogunquit area less than two weeks ago...unfortunately not in my MINI, but in a MINIvan (school trip). Beautiful area, and one I'd like to visit again someday. I took a picture of that lighthouse:

I guess I get really good at the few corners there are because I go through them so much.
