Hail is some serious stuff. I had a car *totaled* in a Texas hailstorm back in '93 or '94. Actually, it was right on the borderline for being declared a total loss, and the adjuster gave me the choice. I asked him what it would take to fix it, and when he got to "cut out the roof and weld in a new one", I stopped him and told him just to total it. And this wasn't an old beater or anything - it was four or five years old at the time, and in beautiful shape.
Here's hoping whoever owns the MINI has it back on the road soon.

That hits me personally very hard because 1, I own a BRG R50 and 2, those same storms rolled through my area recently. Luckily, they calmed down a bit into just some bad thunderstorms and nothing more.

Oooooh nooooo was my immediate reaction. Feel for the poor owner.
We had hail in the area over the weekend luckily though the storm... or at least the hail part of it... missed my neighborhood. In the midst of it as I watched the rain falling on my Mini I found myself contemplating what to do if the falling rain suddenly turned to hail. Try to drive away from the storm? Park under the biggest tree I could find? Figure out which way the wind was blowing and pull up beside a large building to avoid the worst of it? Alas rationally I knew these measures wouldn't work but when my poor Bella was in potential danger it was hard to convince myself that there was nothing I could do.
Minis certainly do have an impact on your life... have never worried so much about the welfare of a car before.

Sorry to see that, bro. I hope you get it back right.
To the above person for normal hail
you can run out quickly and throw
blankets and comforters over your car.
That assumes you are at home of course.
I don't think that method will work with
kansas hail though.

Have you tried that? Sounds like it might work for dime size hail. Wonder how effective it would be for quarter size though?
Of course nothing save a good solid roof would help for softball size hail. Luckily it doesn't happen very often.
I've done it before maybe 4 times with
dime to less than quarter size.
It does work.
But again, you have to be at home
(or carry around a car full of comforters ha ha).
I think most of us are most vulnerable at work.
One idea is to jump out and move your car
to an underpass and sit and wait if you have
a job that you can charge hourly vacation.
And assuming you dont get in a crash with a maniac
trying to get there in a hail storm.

Work is not a problem as we have covered parking. Its just at home that my Mini is subject to the elements. Will have to stash some old comforters in the cabinet by the door so I can run out & cover her in the event of another nasty storm.
Thanks for the tip!

It happened in Manhattan, KS.
A few years back my hometown was hit with our lovely neighborhood Tornado. See the carnage (No MINI's though) here

Hopefully not to many MINI's will meet this fate in KS as there are not many in the majority of the state. I know this because I registered my car at 'home' which is Kansas (im in Lousiana for work) and the county court house had never ever done a MINI before for registration. Needless to say I got a lot of attention when I registered Calie :-D

Ugh. My breath was taken away when my car got sand blasted (hurricane-force gusts) in April, just days after I got my front aero kit bumper installed.
I don't know how I would have handled it if I walked outside to see my MINI dented up like that. I definitely feel the owner's pain!
After seeing this, I'm starting to think I was lucky by 'only' having wind damage (paint chips/pits) to my bumper, bonnet, headlights, and windshield.
