Yep - we almost ALWAYS got SOME kind of reaction from the Mini drivers, whether they were "wavers" or not! Usually double takes...

Oh, being ignored, to be sure ... except when you miss a wave, then that's worse!

It could be worse I saw a guy driving a MCSC in Anaheim. I pulled up next to him and honked. When he looked over, I waved. Then he proceeded to flip me off and make a right turn.

I've been known to miss a wave or two. More often I'm ignored by other Mini owners. I've even had a few watch me wave and for the life of them they have no idea why I'm waving.

Here's a better one. I seem to run into Mini drivers more often while I'm scouting around in the Hubby's Shelby GT500. I've waved from the drivers seat to a few Minis and boy do I get the looks. Then it occurs to me that I'm driving the wrong car. Vice/Versa when I'm driving the Mini I've been known to wave a Mustang or two down. It's a blonde thing!!!

We COULD always get a grill badge or a huge magnetic sign for the sides of the Minis:

"I'M A WAVER -- WAVE TO ME BECAUSE I LOVE DRIVING MY MINI."

Maybe that might get some attention...? And serves as a "Here's your sign" for those who can't figure it out.

Recently most of my MINI meets have occured at places where waving has been impossible or either of us. Did manage a couple of suitable exchanges today, the first sucesses in a month.

In any case, I hope you learn from this faux pas...if you do all will be forgiven!!!
The other thing is some of us tend to modify our cars just a little to make them even more unique. Getting a wave from another driver makes it all worth the time and the fact that we all have great cars that we all will walk up to in a parking lot and look to see what they have makes it worth the while.

Have any of you signed up for a "Motoring ID" at the Owner's Lounge? It's pretty anonymous but still allows a way for people to communicate. That way, if one "misses a wave" one can still get in contact.

If people don't want to use the Owner's Lounge then perhaps NAM will start a motoring id feature of its own. This way, people can either communicate publicly or by private messaging here.
.
