Three of us in our Minis went to Yosemite on Saturday. There's always a few Minis in the park.

A Purple Haze Mini went past us in the other direction on the way up to Glacier Point. I had my window down, and arm extended, waving.

Nowt!

There is NO WAY for it to have been missed. The road isn't wide enough.

Rude twit.

Too funny. I'm military, so duh, going back and forth to work I'm in uniform. Talk about people thinking I"m going to jump in and eat them...!!! I didn't think i looked THAT scary!

Anyway, I do the whole wave thing if I can, but most often I notice a calm-cool-collected-snobby-I-have-one-too nod gets more of a response. If the other Mini drivers look like they're paying attention (which, disturbingly, VERY FEW PEOPLE pay attention to details nowadays!!!) I'll give the thumbs up. Only when I see a true Mini aficionado do I go bananas and wave with lights. Only THAT kind of Mini-person would appreciate the effort.

damned either way around here these days

if I do, i get the glassy forward stare from someone who does not expect or wish to be engaged in this mutual salute

if i don't, sure as heck the other driver will!

MoP has done a good job of selling minis around here, and the population is getting higher every month

in my biker years, the mutual salute also eroded a bit depending on conditions - passing through some beautiful or sparsely populated area it was automatic, but in downtown melbourne or san francisco fuggetaboutit!

these days i still struggle with it, and generally salute the minis that exhibit some mods - expecting the owner to be a bit car crazy too...

This seems to be my problem also. When in one of our other cars I'll wave at a Mini and get the funny looks. Some wave back. Just to make a serious note here... whenever I've been driving the Hubby's GT500 and waved at a Mini, I always get a wave back. GO FIGURE!!!!

To that point - for some reason I expected the MC with the checkerboard roof and mirror caps and the SS/B Clubman (it being so new so the owner is probably enthused) I passed this morning to wave back, and sure enough they did .

It's the "vanilla" (by comparison - no bonnet stripes, no mods, not washed) Coopers and Cooper S es that are hit or miss in our area.

It is the nature of my personality to not acknowledge someone unless they do so first.

I suppose it does not help that I am stone faced and always wear Lennon style sunglasses.

Not to hijack my own thread but miniclubman, I noticed your sig said 15" wheels. Did they come like that?

If not, why did you go for 15's? Ride?

Thanks,

Mark

What if you put this "image" on the outside of your MINI or maybe fly it as a flag:

This would be a GREAT sticker!

Reminds me of those plastic cutouts in the shape of a hand that are on a spring.

But seriously, I wish we had a decal/badge of some sort that would alert us to other "cool" miniers...

Scroll to the bottom of this page and there is a "peace" hand sign available as a badge or a sticker. Maybe that would work.

Had to be a rental (renter) who doesn't know anything about those rules. I mean even if the other car wasn't a MINI and the driver waved at me (arm sticking out and all),...I'd wave back.

Sorry I can't wave because I'm shifting at the redline on every shift. Just kidding I only wave at ladies and just give the thumbs up for men.

I wave at all mini's. Saturday morning on the dragon I was so used to waving I bout jammed my fingers trying to wave through the sunroof and it was closed due to rain. Hubby laughed his **** off. It's just habit and I always wave.

Do you mind if I make a sticker for my MINI and a few extra if anyone asks me for one.

Sadly, I don't always receive a wave back, but on the occasion that I do it always make my day.

orangecrush - off topic, but I got 15" because I really don't care for run flat tires, and I've found the 15" wheels/tires to be fine. My MINI holds the road very well, and the ride is really good for a small car. I'm sure performance tires in 16", 17" or 18", combined with the sport suspension, would provide much more grip at the limits, but that's not for me.

No, that's cool, I was just curious. My best friend just ordered his clubman and was debating between what I thought was stock (16") and upgrading to 17's.

I was kinda surprised to find out you can get them in 15's. I'll bet it rides better, that's for sure....

I'm not sure about that, but I do believe that the sidewalls on run flat tires are stiffer, and the tires on 16" wheels would be lower profile than on 15" wheels, two things that would tend to stiffen the ride. However, I'm sure most MINI owners are very happy with the ride on 16" wheels.

Thus the reason I said it rides better.... less stiff=softer ride.
