Okay, so here's the rules... DON'T FORGET THEM.

When you are driving and you see a mini, one which has a driver waving, nodding or flashing his/her lights, you must return the obligatory gesture.

I drove to TENN this weekend and saw about 10 minis. At least half of them were either right beside me or looked right at me. Only 1 driver waved. :sly:

So, them are the rules... DON'T FORGET IT!!!!.

On a side note, which member did I pass today with the license plate BABY BMW?

She (the driver) was heading east on I-40 just as you are getting into the twisties between the TN/NC border.

Anyway, just saying hi.

pepegrande008 May 11, 2008 06:21 PM

I always flask/wave and i would say 1/3 respond

ScottRiqui May 11, 2008 06:24 PM

What state was BABY BMW from? I think there's a BRG MINI with those plates in Virginia.

A flask/wave? Is that where you give the other drivers one of these while driving down the road?

I'm not surprised that you don't get a lot of responses...

Since my last three cars were Corvette, H2 and Miatas, all 3 of them have a following and I'd say the same as the Minis. Not all wave...

I'm cool that not all people wave but when you travelling RIGHT NEXT to them in the same direction, they could at least acknowledge a fellow mini driver.

North Carolina plates....

minihune May 11, 2008 06:38 PM

I think you have to make the rule that you cannot wave or flash lights first to get them to repond.

You are looking for them to wave or flash lights at you first, right????

What if you put this "image" on the outside of your MINI or maybe fly it as a flag:

Heck no, I'm more than happy to wave, flash or nod first.... I just expect a return acknowledgement from them...lol.

Orangecrush,
Perhaps the reason no one will wave or flash their lights is the grammar.

Well, "Grammar Police", what exactly didn't you like? The expression "them are the rules" was in reference to the title "Don't forget them"... you know, in a facetious/funny/sarcastic tone???

It never ceases to amaze me how rude some people are. A couple weeks ago I was following a a red S for about 2 miles. I waved when they first passed me at a cross street (unreturned) and then we pulled up at a red light side by side. I waved again and the couple just turned forward and refused to look back again. Some peoples kids...

I know what you mean. I guess the point of this post was not because I'm naive enough to think that everyone should wave but you know when you're following a mini owner and you can tell they're "into" their mini.

Does that make sense? When you see a fellow mini owner and you can tell the car has different exhaust, lowered perhaps, stripes, trim, etc, etc.... you just expect them to say hello.

Oh well, it doesn't matter, the post was in jest but still somewhat true...

My other rule.

If the other people are driving with dark glasses on and windows are up, they don't want to be noticed and no form of your waving is going to deter them from their appointed task.

You can wave if the other person looks like Hayden Panettiere of Heroes.

andyb May 11, 2008 07:56 PM

My problem is I wave even when I'm not in my car but the company van or my truck and people look at me like I'm crazy. Well I'm guess I'm not trying to fool anyone.

Ivygirl702 May 11, 2008 08:21 PM

I completely adhere to the rules, although, I usually don't get a response back.

I was even stuck in traffic the other day and came up along a cabrio with the passenger window down. I smiled at the passenger and said, "nice car". The couple insided looked so scared like I was going to jump into their car and eat them.

   You damn mini owners... you're so mean.

HiCLiketheDrink May 12, 2008 09:51 AM

Definitely agreed. It makes me kinda feel like a tool when I pull up to another MINI and get all excited and wave and beep... only to have them ignore me for the 30 seconds I'm literally side by side with them.

There should be a better rule, maybe: Only cool people are eligible for MINI ownership.:)

robbybee May 12, 2008 09:59 AM

I have had COOOOOP since he was a baby in 2002. At that time, EVERY MINI owner waved, smiled, flashed and/or responded - 1st generation or 2nd generation. That was when all of the owners were true afficianados.

Now days, with so many more MINIs on the road, the odds of running across a true fan are dwindling.

That being said, KEEP WAVING!!!

PLEASE! (I do!!)

I always return a wave and sorta get pissed at myself if I think I did it too late and it might not have been seen. As for initiating a wave, I almost always do ...except for little old ladies with their head fixed straight ahead and blinders on.

The other day there was a MINI nearly identical to mine following me in traffic. Different wheels and a black roof, otherwise the same. When we got to the light I was in front and this real cutie pulled up in the lane next to me and gave me a big smile. I gave her a thumbs up, which she returned.

I know, its just a smile and a small gesture ...but it made my day.

Dean.

AliceCpr07 May 12, 2008 10:37 AM

I have never gotten a return wave from another female....in fact they usually give me a dirty look?

Its only men who wave back
So thanks guys!!!

orangecrush May 12, 2008 12:00 PM

It's good to see that I'm not wierd about making this post... Everytime I see a mini, I do the wave, lights, whatever because it makes me feel good that they're true afficianados.... not just driving a mini because it's good on gas.

It's just a little disappointing to find out they're not as excited as you are about sharing your enthusiasm.

Oh well, keep on waving.... I will.
