Don't quote me, but in the European tests I think it did as well, or close, to the Mini. The 'tridion' cell protecting passengers is very robust and additionally in the US it comes with both front and side airbags, whereas the European cars do not - so the cars we get here should actually fare better yet. Of course it is not going to be the most safe car on the road considering the size, but like any little car the unstated advantage is accident avoidance.

Just Kiddin...... let's keep it fun that was my only intention.
Oops, sorry just saw this - didn't mean to make it serious. Guess I'm just excited and happy to be able to participate and some of the serious comments got me

And yeah, I still have fun driving (and trust me, Smart won't be the only car), but I gotsta park a lot too

I don't want to own one, but the more ForTwos the better. I have seen a couple on the Interstate and hope to see many more rather than all these SUVs that people do not need to be driving. Bring on the Alfas and Fiats, too. More SUVs need to be supplanted by small cars.

Sorry you guys are hating on them though, I'd hate to feel so unwanted on NAM

PS: It actually is fun to drive and pretty darn safe too - and most importantly, heated seats!
I'd still park it in East Jesus, so the parking space advantage would be useless to me. I hate having my property destroyed by morons.

I drive a 100mi / day, 5-days /wk....

I get around 400 mi per tank in a MCS (non-works)...

With summer blends I get 31-35 mpg.
Winter (10% Ethanol) blends yeild 29-31mpg.

Mostly highway in an R53 manual...

But the Mini is still a blast to drive and toss on the twisties... it also has 'slightly' more power (168 vs 40)

Anything that is fun to drive is a friend (and a competitor to MINIs).
Anything that isn't, well isn't (Hello, Prius or anything from Toyota lately?)

Since I am not changing my car or home, I guess I need to change my job

Just fyi, the spaces we've been getting are truncated bits of curb in between driveways, actually better then lots of other street options. East Jesus not needed (and distance only helps so much anyway in popular/populous zones).

The Smart ForTwo is no competitor for Mini. IMO. Maybe more a competitor to a covered motorcycle or something.

Sorry, I kinda want a smart for it's ease of parking, increased economy over my MCS, and the ability to tell people the MINI's my large car for fun and longer trips. I want one but at the moment a motorcycle seems even better suited to my needs.

Yep... also leave out anything after it, like "&related" or other such nonsense.

Great video links, thanks!

I saw a bright yellow SMART getting on the freeway a few weeks ago. It wasn't very cute. And it wasn't exactly moving at freeway speed. If was on a tv show like Mr. Bean, I would run it down.

Don't forget most of this Smarts are still in the engine break in period, very hard to keep the revs down. Also some are not even trying to optimize the transmission and shift, they are happy to go slow in 'D" and get best mpg. As for appearances, well let's just say that many here can't even agree on what looks okay in the Mini world

Lol, totally not surprised that anyone would have it for a single day in Los Angeles, where most everything requires highways and nothing is like a traditional city/urban center for which it was designed, and not like it. It's certainly not a sports car and def not for someone who does not like SMG type trannys. For me it is a fun inexpensive (we are talking way less then the Mini with still some good bells and whistles) city car that goes where no other can, and I don't have to worry about all the typical jerks dinging it up. We happen to like the transmission, got used to it and it's cool *shrug* I like the rear wheel drive and seeing eye to eye with higher cars now too - it's a nice change. Heck I might even become a mellower kinder person driving this

Anyways, enjoy your Minis - we did love ours (both of them) but the time has come for different things. And remember hating is not good for you, and it certainly won't matter to anyone happy with their choice. Cheers

I don't hate the Smart, I just can't imagine anyone wanting to drive it on the freeway. I can totally see the appeal in an environment like San Francisco.
