I'll check out the 2010 Alfa when it arrives but something tells me that the 230 HP version won't be cheap so how does that make it a genuine MINI killer? Probably won't be light weight either, heck look at those huge wheels, good luck getting those to move in a hurry.

I don't even think it can handle my 2003 MCS on an autocross course.

It will have a interesting time dealing with R-53 and R-56 with many years of dialing in under their belts . Should be fun though.

It used a torsion bar up front... As springs for a short-long dual A arm set up with the lower arm out of cast aluminum. For the rear, it had coil springs to suspend a funky tube frame, kind of like a solid axle but for a car that used a rear transaxle mounted to the chassis. Inboard brakes, and a watts link. The front contact point was way up at about the rear of the front seats (on a four door sedan). Never underestimate Alfas ability to deliver interesting yet phenominal handling packages....

So true...

from an Autoblog story on US Alfas maybe being made in Mexico or the US....

"Besides, those shop queens were so joyous to drive, they made suckers out of all of us, and we'd do it again, given the chance. "

Even my little Fiat 124 spider fits this. Took two years to really shake out, and all 80 hp of it was a blast every day I drove it.

Heck

it started with 60! Then I upped the displacement a bit. It's amazing what you can do with a little motor and a 4.37:1 rear end! I think red-line was about 12 mph in first, so it could spin the tires getting there. But dispite the "fix it again tony" moniker, you could build a 1.8l that would spin 13k RPM (mini didn't), and it had four wheel disc brakes with Al calipers at all corners. The solid rear axle has a padhard bar, and coil overs at all corners. And a trunk mounted battery mounted in the middle for weight distribution improvements. Gotta make most of what you got, that's the key.

Myself, I'd love to see a return to the US market by Alfa. For that matter Citroen, Peugeot, Renault, Fiat, etc. - Not an easy task for many reasons but - one step at a time.

Those manufacturers should seize the opportunity and bring those cars in now to finish off the big three's domestic lines.

only problem is renault, and alfa, had horrible reps in the 80's. it would take a strong solid vehicle to open the doors up again
