Miles to Inspection

Hello, I have a question about the miles to inspection on the speedo gauge. Is it for oil changes? Or some other maintenance? I dont have an owners manual yet, but the counter is close to zero and id like to get this taken care of. Please help.

Assuming your car is still under warranty (time, mileage), the number is counting down to your 10,000, 25,000, etc. mile service. This includes an oil/filter change and a handful of inspections, part replacements, etc.

In my very small experience, your Mini dealership will probably make an appointment and do the service once you're below 1000 to go.

Don't expect your mileage and miles-to-go to add up to a neat, round number. The miles-to-go is based on car performance, or gas guzzling or some weird thing I can't identify. 10k service might happen at 11 or 12k, 25k service might be in the high 20's.

If you post your car's mileage here, someone might be able to peek at their service book and let you know to expect Oil/filter change, inspect this, replace that, etc.

My mileage is 54000, is there some indicator when the oil needs to be changed?

I'm guessing you bought yours used. New ones get first 36000 miles service free. The indicator on the speedometer change form oil service to inspection. I checked with my local dealer and was told inspection would run about $600. If you do your own maintenance, you can reset that counter manually.

The indicator is for both oil and inspection. After you reset it this time it will say oil service.

Since your milage is close to mine your probably at inspection 2:
Undercarriage Change oil and oil filter while engine is at operating temperature.
We recommend MINI Synthetic Motor Oil, p/n 07 51 0 143 829 Check transmission for leaks. Change CVT (automatic) transmission fluid. Half shafts: Check for leaks at flexible boots. Visually check fuel tank, lines and connections for leaks. Check condition, position, and mounting of exhaust system. Examine for leaks. Check power steering system for leaks. Check p/s fluid level; add fluid if necessary. Check overall thickness of front and rear disc brake pads (outer pads only) using special tool.
If replacement is necessary:
Examine brake disc surfaces. clean brake pad contact points in calipers. Grease wheel centering hubs.
Check thickness of parking brake linings only when replacing rear pads. Check steering for absence of play, condition of suspension track rods, front axle joints, steering linkage and joint disc. Check brake system connections and lines for leaks, damage, and incorrect positioning. Check parking brake actuation. Adjust if necessary. Check all tire pressures (including spare). Correct if necessary. Check
condition of tires (outer surfaces [left/right]), tread wear and pattern; in
case of uneven tread wear readjust wheel alignment if requested(to be
invoiced separately.)
Note: If requested rotate all four road wheels as instructed and rebalance.
(invoiced separately.) Inspect entire body according to terms of rust perforation limited warranty (must be performed at least every two years). Engine Compartment Read out diagnostic system. Check engine cooling system/heater hose connections for leaks. Check coolant level and antifreeze protection level; add coolant if necessary.
Note: Coolant must be replaced every 4 years (time interval begins from vehicle's production date). Check level of brake fluid in reservoir. Add fluid if required. Replace brake fluid every 2 years (timing interval begins from vehicle's production date).* Check windshield washer fluid level and antifreeze protection. Fill up and/or correct if necessary. Check air conditioner operation. Replace microfilter.
Note: reduce replacement interval in dusty operating conditions. Reset Service Interval Indicator. Replace intake air cleaner element.
Note: Reduce replace interval in dusty operating conditions. Replace poly V-belt. Body/Electrical Equipment Check battery state-of-charge, and charge if required.* Check lighting system, i.e., headlights, foglights, parking, back-up, license plate, interior, glove box, illuminated make-up mirrors, luggage area lights. Check instrument panel and dashboard illumination. Check all warning/indicator lights, check control. Check turn signals, hazard warning flashers, brake lights, horns, headlight dimmer/flasher switch. Check windshield and tailgate wipers and washer systems; wiper blades, washer jet positions. Check condition and function of safety belts. Check central locking system. Check operation of all latches. Check heater/air conditioner blower fan, rear window defogger. Check rear view mirrors. Visually examine the SRS airbag units for torn covers, obvious damage or attachment of decals, decorations or accessories. Final Inspection Road test with check of brakes, suspension, steering, clutch/manual transmission or automatic transmission. Visually check shock absorbers for leaks.
As you can see its quite a list but not sure if its worth 600 bucks.

As for reset if you do a search on nam others have posted it. I haven't done it yet but it involve holding in the button on the speedometer then turning the key to 1st position to get to a new menu.
