The Dragon... What is it?

Alright, I've read a lot of talk about "The Dragon" but I don't have the slightest clue what it is. Could someone help me out on this?

Does anyone know the speed limit there? Just curious, cause I saw a video of it, and it was CRAWLING with cops

The Dragon is only one of MANY great roads in that area... it's the most famous, but many folks don't consider it the best... it's actually just across the border in TN - and sometimes the TN cops patrol heavily. Other times they don't. There are other wonderful driving roads on the NC side of the border with 55mph speed limits and little or no enforcement...

Hint: there's almost never speed enforcement on the Dragon at night...

Go during the week and you can really wind it out... one thing to remember is to "stay in your lane!".
I've been both on a bike and a car. The bike was fun, but in my Miata on a weekday afternoon was fantastic!
I'm hoping to get back there someday soon in the Mini.

That"s definitely the time to do it... late afternoon Tues-Thurs is usually great - LEOs (if there were any) have gone home, the truckers have already made it through... not much traffic or many bikes... only have to watch out for bass boats...

The dragon is great; however I agree there are a lot more roads with less cops and higher speed limits. It's a great place to go for a week or long weekend. There is a nice place to stay in Robbinsville, NC

It is owned by an older couple, who take very good care of the rooms and at a very reasonable price.

You should really check to see what's going on on the road before you go. I wound up driving down it on a Wed. afternoon and it was like a 20mph train of solid traffic. I'd pull off for pictures frequently hoping the traffic would lighten up but it never did. Turns out that day was the day an MG club as well as a bunch of motorcycles converged on the road.
