Taking my MINI to the track today

i am soooo nervous! for one we are taking it to a local dragstrip thats an 1/8 of a mile and not a regular course. also, when we took our PW/W mini on Friday all i saw driving were men! i am definately not a man, so im worried that ill get made fun of. lol but i have decided that this is something i need to do for myself and not have my fiance drive my mini at the track for me. anyway if i can get my dad to record both of us racing eachother at the track today, we'll get it posted here for you guys

Not sure that is great advice on a front wheel drive car. As long as the front wheels are pulling, the rears will follow. Lifting will put more weight to the front wheels and less to the rears, and you will quickly find yourself swapping ends.

Which track are you going to? Moroso?

Have fun and don't worry about the "men." I used to autocross down there for several years and the guys were very receptive to having women drivers out there. In fact, some of the club's fastest drivers were women, so you should be okay.

Now go autocrossing, and really get a good account of what you can do.

Mini's quarter miles should never be straight.

well moroso is pretty far from miami so i went to countyline dragstrip its a place they opened a year ago, its strange drag racing a mini seeing as everything else there is pretty much a mustang but i had alot of fun. i was racing my fiance so it was pretty cool to be able to beat him 5 times anyway those weere the pictures of our time. they had like outlaw drag day so they wouldnt show the other person your time. as soon as i can figure out how to upload the video from my camera (camcorder) i will post it so you guys can see.

its only been open for a year. if you want to go its on US 27 and Krome Ave. its the old Opa Locka touch and go airstrip. its pretty fun i mean you can get a couple runs in, and then watch the other cars race. all kinds of imports, muscle cars, etc. we take both of our minis all the time so if you ever want to get let me know!

Very cool. I wish I knew more 1/8 mile times.

Might I suggest youtube.com for the video.

There are some times from other MINIs in the 1/8 and 1/4 in the Drag Racing section. Compare your 1/8 ET, mph, and 60' to get a decent comparison to others that ran a full 1/4 mile that also have 1/8 mile data and you can get a decent estimate:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...play.php?f=130

I'd guess your best runs would be about a 14.8-15.0 @ 93-95 mph. Nice job!

Could I ask whether you launched in full auto mode or tried using full manual mode as well? Or did you try starting in 1st gear instead of 2nd as well? Just curious if you tried other things to go faster or just stuck to full auto mode.

Right, lifting in a turn can be a bad plan...

if i would have used the manual mode we have i would have shifted earlier than the car shifts by itself anyway. it shifts at about 6200 rpms which is obviously not as far as our manual mini can go. what i did was turn off the DSC and ASC, put it in sport mode, and then move our shift thing as if i was going to use the manual, and put it down into first gear. this gives us two different sport modes (believe it or not, i was told by the mini mechanic at the dealer). as you can probably tell, i did alot better than our manual mini.
