Gas Prices

So up until now, I've been putting 93 in my 07 MCS - most garages only carry 87, 89 & 93 anyway. Last night I filled up at a Sunoco and they did carry 91, so I thought hmmm, I'll save some money - then I noticed the price, here's the breakout:

87 - $3.17
89 - $3.27
91 - $3.45
93 - $3.47

2 cents difference - big freaking deal, so I ended up putting 93 in anyway, as that's all my Mini has known so far. I know that's cutting my nose off to spite my face, but ho hum.

There's only one station in my area that sells 93 -- BP. It was considerably more there than the 91 at my usual station. I don't recall the exact amount, but it was quite a bit more than $.02. I tried it for a couple of tanks, and actually got better mileage/performance from my usual Top-Tier 91. Now I only use the 91 from the Top-Tier station.

yummy, my MCS loves the 93 Sunoco gas. i've also found that the engine really likes the Valero gas here in the NorthEast. have any of you put race octane in like 104. what a hoot that was. the engine sounded as clean as it did 40k ago. i really like spoiling Madeline with all of the best things i can find.

I filled up at Exxon last night. I know, I know, but I wasn't able to make it to our usual Texaco station down the freeway. I paid $3.25!!! Yikes! I normally pay at least a dime less at the Texaco place.

I always use 93.

you know when I see prices at 3.75 at the local Mobile, which has a Mobile processing plant by the way, it makes me sick to think they want to raise that price by another 40 cents.

Last time I was in CA it was cheaper than MI. I love living in the Motor City! (really, I like my job, but not so much the metro)

Anyway.. I always get 93, since Costco has 93 and 87. They have pretty high volume (always busy!), so I figure it's fresh. When I'm on the road I stick with BP or Shell and get 93, too. 93 is usually $0.20 more than 87. On a whole tank it's $2.00 more - which I spend in the vending machine at work once a week.

OMG, I almost hate to post this. We just had a 7-11 move into where there's another little country store on the other corner. They have been going at it with price wars. Seriously! Yesterday when I left our neighborhood the premium was $2.89 at the little country store. 7-11 was still sitting at $2.99. The little country store's lot was over flowing with people waiting for gas. A few hours later both stations were at $2.80.

So now the bad news. My Mini is on full, our F150 is on full, the Hubby's GT500 is on full (had to check that one twice), and Hubby has the company van across town working all afternoon. This is just my luck.

California stations don't offer 93 octane?

I always try and go Top-Tier, which by me = shell. I always use 93 and right now it's at $3.49

We only have 93 octane in AL except off brand stations and convenience stores where you can get 91. I think my last fill up at Shell was 3.23 for 93. I expect 3.70 to 4.00 per gallon when the summer blend switchover occurs, unless there is some real correction in the oil markets, not likely.

My R56 MINI always gets 93 octane. The engine is a high compression version that will detune with lower level fuel, resulting in less performance. What would the point of that be, to save a couple bucks per tank? I would suggest that folks that want to do this, skip one week a month of Starbucks, and make your morning coffee drink at home. Drive to work each morning never shifting below 3500 rpm and use 93 Octane fuel. I'll bet you'll still have a few extra dollars a week in your pocket!

They do have 105 (race gas) at some 76 stations in CA, but it's $5+. I've just been using 91 and even that is way too expensive. Pretty soon we'll have the choice of donating blood for gas.

Well time for a Canadian to say what needs to be said.

Quickly saying, this past August I went from Alberta to, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia then back to Calgary.
The most expensive place I paid gas was, I think in Utah (but I can't remember). I travel to Montana (Whitefish) every few weekends with my girlfriend.

Canadian gas is probably the most expensive gas in North America and here are my prices as of earlier today. Prices do NOT include exchange rate.

87 - $4.01 gal / $1.06 L
89 - $4.39 gal / $1.16 L
91 - $4.76 gal / $1.26 L

I tell ya, I love getting my gas in good ole USA!!! You guys are alright in my books.

Scott.

That's horrible. I guess I should take advantage of our "cheap" gas while I still can.

Yeah, tell them to let the oil companies start exploring and drilling for oil in the US and let a few refineries be built.

Those prices are from almost 3 years ago. It lists gas in Brasilia as $3.12 per gallon. This is a picture I took in Rio de Janeiro about 2 weeks ago while visiting my parents who live there (Brasilia's prices are almost the same).

That equates to $6.25 a gallon for premium.
Notice that diesel is cheaper there and the presence of alcohol (pure ethanol). Also for those who complain about winter blends. All gas in the country has at least 26% ethanol no matter what grade or station you go for.
