I just purchased a 2002 mini cooper and it has only one white stripe on the right side of the hood with a pinstripe on each side that is carried back on the hatch(nothing on the roof of course).

At first i thought i was going to immediately get it removed and 2 stripes added, but now it has grown on me as its the only one i have seen. So i will be keeping it even though up close it is cracking from what looks like sun damage.

Was this a custom job, a factory option, a guy who couldn't afford the other stripe. I looked at the options of the current mini and i didn't see an option for one stripe.

Probably an after market type deal. If you like it then keep it, you dont see that to often.

Is it straight or like an angle like ordinary bonnet stripes?

 

Most likely the owner did it on purpose and depending on which side (when you say right do you mean driver's side or passenger side) will determine which type of stripe it's called. You can go to CooperFlags or Aesthetic Creations websites and see that it's either called a "driver's edge" or "passenger's edge" stripe. I thought of getting one for SheRa but decided against stripes altogether. Getting something different instead....the time is approaching !

 

Would also be interested in seeing what one stripe looks like.

Here's the Racer's Edge Bonnet Stripe Aesthetic Creations offers. I borrowed the pic from their site. It's actually pretty nice looking. Of course, if it appears to have reached the end of its life, it's probably time to remove it and replace it with another if you like that look.

The fact that there's one on the back leads me to believe that the previous owner simply likes the single stripe look. Also those are definitely aftermarket stripes. It if was a case of one OEM bonnet stripes then it would be quite different. But your setup is very unique and ties in with the MINI well. I like it.

 

Definitely a custom job. It looks good. If you like it, cool. If not, it should be removable and then you can get what you like.
