I've been to the dealer twice in over 5 years of having my MCS. My MINI is 100% problem free so why do I need to go to a dealer.
I've had to take my 2007 MC to the dealer twice already. The first time was two days after picking it up - the engine fault light came on. Drive right to the Dealer. They checked and found a software error but I had to wait weeks for the new software to come in. Then I've had to take it in for two days to get the software upgrade. I'm glad to hear that you are problem free!!!
About 10 miles... less than my Liberator had on the ODO when I picked it up!
And Mr Vvrroomm, isn't it something when your MINI tech person greets you in their sweater vest and tie? I thought I was in the sterile ward of the local hospital when I drove in for my first oil change!

Reason: I goofed up!
What a disparity in dealers! Some have 3 within an hour and others have to drive 600 miles??? What's up with that?? Is the market that big for Minis in those *3 within an hour* area?
My MINI dealer is 2hours 30min away. The BMW dealership is 9 miles. The idea that the MINI showroom and the BMW showroom must be separate is a someone's idea of marketing or branding identity. It is great theory, but to the consumer, means nothing. The reason I didn' buy another BMW was based on the product(s) available, not going into a single product store and just being exposed to MINI. The dealer I bought my MINI from (Baron-KC) has a spiral showroom with MINI on the first level and BMW on the next. Service is all in one area. Didn't make me want or not want a MINI. But, BMW corporate is a successful, independent company and they call the shots. However, they do sometimes listen, so keep up the shouting-we need a better geographic distribution of MINI dealers!!

The poster with 3 within an hour lives on Long Island, NY. Major market covering NYC and the Hamptons crowd. I'd imagine they all get plenty of business.
But that doesn't exclude the fact that many of us live in areas with lots of MINIs, and lots of high end car dealers, but not a MINI dealer in sight. One BMW dealer has made major expansions to their dealership with the expectations of opening a MINI dealer since 2002 to no avail.
As far as exclusivity, when I had an Audi, it came from a dealer 10 miles away that also had Porsche and Mercedes under the same roof, with showrooms for each, but shared service areas.

The closest Mini dealer to me is about 10 minutes away. Although I prefer the dealer that is about 45 minutes away. Actually, there are about 5 dealers within an hour to an hour and a half of my place. There are some good things about living in Canada.
I have a dealership less than 10 mins. from my house, but I wouldn't go there under any circumstance. They damn near killed me by sabotaging my car (look in my gallery).
If I have to have work done, I go to another dealer who's about 45 mins. away. With bad traffic it can be 2 hours...
My dealer is about 100 miles away. Nobody is "making" me drive that far...I volunteered! I knew what to expect when I signed the papers. No complaints here.
