Motorist down! Motorist down! The Ticket Thread
You're lucky you didn't run into the new law out here, Whisky B. 30 over is not messin' around since January 1st, 2007! Another tip is not to move until the officer is at the vehicle. That way they'll see that you still have your seatbelt on. (Although you can see it from behind the vehicle if you know what you're looking for)
As for words of encouragement - slow down, eh? No reason to be doin 60 in a 35. If you want to drive your MINI in Anger, come out and join us for SCCA Solo II at the Stadium on September 9th.

Glad to be of service.
Oh, and a big WTF to the Iowan troopers - what would be considered 'reasonable cause' to assume someone had bought cigarettes - a bunch of smoke coming out of the trunk?!
Way to fight back, ladisney! (and why does someone in Iowa have a handle of LA Disney?
)
I never go in my glove box when pulled over because I am packing. Every time I have gotten pulled over it turns into a long ordeal. I was taught to shoot by a police officer & he told me when pulled over to immediately tell the officer I have a gun in the glove box so he can get it out. I always have to get out of the car so they get it out & then they always have to go through extra steps to ensure that I am licensed to carry. But that's just the price you have to pay if you are packin

Check out the book "More Guns, Less Crime" by John Lott. Everywhere concealed carry laws have been loosened violent crime has gone down. Murder rates are at their highest where law abiding citizens are prevented from having guns.
In the US there are 90 guns for every 100 people. You don't think that's enough?
"PreMINI" is right! My ticketless 10 year stretch was due to the fact that I was driving vehicles of lesser performance quality. Traded in my customized Astro van to get the JCW. Since then Ive been pulled over quite a bit, guess it doesnt sink in until you actually get a citation.
P.S. Thanx for the invite Latka!

Hey everyone. Finally got a speeding ticket tonight. It's been almost ten years. The feeling is still horrible though. Got caught doing about 60 in a 35, and then I had to take off my belt to get into the g-box, which won me another citation. incredible. I'd like to think it was worth it, but it just wasn't, especially after the seat-belt thing. You would think that I was being a jerk to the officer or something, maybe he was having a bad day, I dont know. Nonetheless, here I am $192 lighter, wishing that I stayed at home to watch the darn eclipse. All I can do to keep from completely breaking down into a stooper is think to myself, " Its better than an accident!" Although this is true, it doesn't ease the rub.
I write this to all fellow motorists who have not had the experience of autographing a citation in the comfort of their own Mini, and for those that have had the pleasure already, I feel your pain.
Any words of encouragement will be greatly appreciated.
Glad to see you edited the post to actually add words.
Sorry about the tickets. The officer actually gave you a citation for driving without a seatbelt because you took it off to get your POI and Reg out of the glove box ??!!
That's odd.
I would eat the speeding ticket but fight the seatbelt violation.

Hope this helps to know that you're not alone
Motor off hands on the wheel is very good advice.
You folks who have dark tinted windows should be especially careful. Most officers perceive you have those dark windows because you want to hide something. Most officers are very wary of a car with them. The car my brother in law pulled over had dark tinted windows.
The car he pulled over was owned by a lady a few states away. Turns out it was driven by her killer, an escaped murderer. 3 time losers shoot first I guess.
Edit.... I know there is a lot of dislike for cops. They are human, some good some not as much. Just remember there are a lot that die in the line of duty. They would lay their lives down to protect you or your family.

I once dated a highway patrolman, and the best advice I ever got was to roll down all windows, turn off the car, put the keys on the dash and then keep my hands on the wheel.
It's never gotten me out of trouble but I also suppose I've never been shot while reaching for anything

In reply to posts 43 and 44:
I must have missed the cop-bashing in this thread. Granted, I didn't read every word of every post, so maybe it's possible. But the overall tone of this thread is certainly not anti-police.
