I'm curious...Who's the last person you know of who got pulled over for honking their horn? I had never heard of this before and by the look of other people's posts...neither have they. I think it's an interesting ticket considering I hear people honking everyday.

As a matter of fact, there was a letter in our local 'Road Show' column where a guy got a ticket for honking at someone who was sitting at a green light. Pretty weak, IMO.

There is one intersection on my way home that people ALWAYS block. I always give them a good honk as I swerve to avoid them. Hopefully it makes them a bit reluctant to do the same next time. Even more hopefully, I don't get a ticket the next time I do it.

Getting a ticket for honking at someone stopped at a green?

I just don't understand that. Not paying attention to traffic signals IS a safety concern. That's what I though the horn was for! Now, everything I know about driving is in doubt.....

That sucks, a horn is a horn. You weren't indangering anyone, you weren't moving. This go's to show how some police abuse their authority or as I like to say on an authority trip.

Maybe he was pissed that you drive a nice auto.

Fight it.

Go to the dragon and honk as much as you like while the TN troopers look on. From tailofthedragon.com:

We can't believe that THP is NOT writing tickets for violating this law which is actually on the books:
55-8-166. Driving on mountain highways. The driver of a motor vehicle traveling on mountain highways shall hold such motor vehicle under control and as near the right-hand edge of the highway as reasonably possible and, upon approaching any curve where the view is obstructed within a distance of two hundred feet (200") along the highway, shall give audible warning with the horn of such motor vehicle.
[Acts 1955, ch. 329, § 66; T.C.A., § 59-867.]
LET 'S START OBEYING THE LAW - SOUND HORN AT EVERY CORNER. Thanks to D. Stallings for pointing this law out.

He goes "Excessive horn honking from a MINI COOPER?!?" while he is laughing a bit more, and louder, which gets the other people having to go up after me laughing as well.
Congrats

Just curious. Why do you think he was laughing? Disdain for MINIs or MINIs are cute? It can be interpreted both ways but you were there. It comes somewhat across as a silly charge thrown out.

Honestly, it sounded as if he thought MINI's were cute. Like he wouldn't expect all of this horn honking to be possible from a MINI. He definitely got a kick out of it, which was extremely surprising.

I took it as though he was saying "Come on, it's a MINI! This charge is ridiculous." But that's just a guess. I had a good laugh about it walking out the doors. It was a good Friday!

MINI's are like little kids, you just can't be mad at them and don't think they can do any evil.

I think frequent trips to the dragon would result in premature horn failure.

One year ago during a city organized Easter Egg Hunt. A guy was driving around the park honking his air horns... which started the stampede of kids off early (the signal to stat was a blast of the horns from the firetruck). Police nearby stopped him during the third pass and gave him a ticket. Hey... you asked.

Couple of years ago I was stopped at a light on the right lane of two lanes that can go forward. Left lane can turn left and forward. Right lane can go forward and right. Construction was going on in the middle of the intersection with a police officer watching over the worker's safety. My lane pretty much had only room enough for one car so if a car wanted to turn right behind you, they'd have to wait. While waiting for the light to turn green, a yuppie in BWM pulled up behind me and then started honking. I just kinda glanced at him annoyed in the rear view mirror. He gives me that shoulder shrug kinda thing like wth was I doing? Maybe he thought I was in a right turn only lane although I don't know how' d he missed the big sign on the light in front of him or the huge lane markings behind me. He honks again....police officer starts walking towards us. I was thinking, " Oh no. Hope he doesn't think it was me." Nope, he walks directly towards the BMW. Light turns green..I go straight..BMW is directed towards the right corner. Don't know if he ever got ticketed or just warned but it sure made my day.
