M7 at the Nurburgring

I was posting the Nurburgring photos in the M7 European Tour but I realized that i had so many shots I needed to make a separate thread. Here are some new ones and I will repost the others from the original thread here as well to keep everything together .

If you are into race history I can not stress enough how cool all this was. I wish i had a better camera as I only had a little canon power shot but you get the idea Here is today's installment. I have a bunch from the museum itself that I will post as well.

The tour takes you onto the track proper and places you would never be able to get to during a race .

These are the old original garages restored and stil in use. Those are the BMW school Z-4's staged .

The new Audi A5 was being debuted to dealers when we were there . Here they are in the original paddock area.

Audi R-8 sneaking back from a test session.

This tunnel leads from the old paddock to the track. One can only imagine the talent that has driven thru here. The placks on the left are of former champions and participants.

Close up of the placks

The new timing and scoring tower

Behind the FI pits where the transporters stage.

In the F1 garage

This tuner had rented a space for some private testing.

Even the team van's are cool

Here they are leaving for a session. This little rocket was supercharged and built to the hilt. He passed me at a HIGH rate of speed later on the track.

Have to run but more to come.

That Mercedes police car looks badass.
Thanks for posting all this. Don't appologize for the Canon Powershot... it's the operator.

Well not to go too off track I have a experimental louvered outlet for the DIFC on my car.

Or you could go the way of this car which was waiting with us in the parking area to drive on the Ring.

A bit extreme but you asked

There is even attention to detail on their transporters. Look how aerodynamic this one is with full wheel covers.

Of couse if you cover the wheels you need to cool them. NACA ducts of course !

This is one half of the media center in the timing tower.

View from the media center roof of the back side of the F! track . You can see the Ring track in back.

Anothe shot out the back. Yes that is a castle there. not too shabby view wise.

looking down the front straight towards the last turn.

Statrting grid with lay outs for both bikes and cars .

Continuing down the front dtraight towards the first turn and past the main grand stand.

Trying to give you a sence of how in the liddle of nowhere this place is and so beautiful because of it.

Tis is actually the enclosed walkway between two of the museam buildings.

Making a car for the Police must be a German thing as BWM worked up a super hot M5 for the SC State Police when they built the plant in Greer, SC. Maybe they are trying to get on their good side as they produce so many cars that create headaches for the trooper/officers. Beautiful shots, looks like one heck of a trip! You haven't even mentioned the incredible beer you've found in Germany yet

Yea, that would be nice to have that police car....

I would rather drive a Porsche though or a Lambo like in Italy....

Very nice tour and great pics.
I lived near the track in Monza, Italy for 3 years, less than 2 miles away. Anytime I'd mountain bike in the park they had something going on there.
They had a drag strip, wet track, and the main track available to clubs and the public for a fee.
I only had my Base '96 Impreza and a '72 Mini (the last 8 months), neither of which were track worthy.
Europe is so nice with the accessiblility of F1 style tracks.
I plan to hit the Ring in the next 3 years and move back to Italy as soon as possible.

This particular car is a joint effort between mercedes and Brabus to help raise saftey awareness . They do a different car each year and show them all over the country.

I am going to pull some shots over from the M7 Euro tour thread that belong here . I will leave the Goodwood and Hockenheim material on that thread and bring all the Nurburgring shots here . If you have already seen them over on that thread bare with me and I will be adding all new material shortly.

New M3 was very fast thru here.

A look at the LONG straightaway

Porsche test driver tossing a Cayenne from side to idea at no less that 150 MPH. His car control was unbelievable and was thought to possibly be Walter Rhol.

MUCH more abut this Aston later.

MBZ 6.3 Black series . Sounded unlike any Merc I ever heard ?

Ferrari 599 plastic wrapped for freshness.

Ferrari 599 passing the MBZ on the outside of a very tricky corner. It was later found out to be THE Michael Schumacher out playing in the 599

Here is a little Aston action for you.

I've been trying to post some very short videos up on You Tube so hopefully they will work. Again these are just of that one tricky section and are taken with my little canon powershot but hopefully you will get a feel as to what we experienced.

Here are a few more shots of cars driving in and around the Ring.

The new Gt3- Rs was well represented.

I found these two near classics in a little town about 10 km from the track.

They come to drive the ring in ALL kinds ! These guys were certainly here for a good time in this little econo bomber .Unfortunatly about 10 min after this shot as we crested the first hill while on the track we found them pulled over with some sort of malfunction .

Bentley on the run

Classic Evo Mercedes

Some of the players waiting for their turn .

This guy came down from Sweden to have some fun and games in his red rocket.

As the locals said on the ring these are the ones you watch out for.
There were some amazing bikes there.

Even the trailors are cool

Its not all auto all the time

Here are a few shots from on the track itself .

Randy

Here are the gates to the life size Gran Turismo game

Yes I was really here LOL

This is the approach to the section where we took a lot of the earlier shots and the video. This gives you an idea as to what they were looking at as they approached our vantage point.

Graffiti just like GT-4

Somebody had a problem .

M3 hard on the brakes. YES it was that green : )

Porsche and a crotch rocket playing . The windsheild was murder on the local flying insect population.

This is the shot you GT-4 fans have been looking for . In the famed carrosel . It is a lot rougher that you think both from the g load and the concrete pads. Certainly something that would take some getting used to.
