New MINI gesture

Instead of the mini wave (which I still love), I think we should start a mini gesture where we spell "mini" with our fingers.

So on the right hand, put your thumb underneath your middle finger and ring finger, and extend your index finger.

That's "mi"

Then with your left hand, put your index finger under your thumb. Put your middle finger and ring finger over your thumb and extend your pinky.

That's "ni"

This is the non-driving or passenger side gesture.

If you are driving, and you have both hands on the wheel, then simply raising your right hand index finger and left hand ring and pinky finger will suffice.

I was actually thinking of converting "the wave" to the motorcycle-style "power-fist" Something a little more macho

Yeah, no. That won't work for me.

I drive it like it's stolen. Some days -- like runs through the Black Forest -- it's enough to manage a wave.

Better than giving the bird, I suppose....

Nice sentiment, but too complicated. Plus, judging from the looks I get around here, people don't even know what a simple wave means. I'm sure I'd get the finger back, more times than not. BTW, WFT is with people in the DC area?? I realize men outnumber women 5 to 1 in daytime DC, but that doesn't mean every nice act by a male -- including the MINI wave --- means we are trying to get you in bed.

I'm with Abuzavi - sometimes it's hard enough to wave, much less some complicated sign-language ritual that's just going to be misinterpreted as "throwing up gang signs" by 99% of the driving public anyway.

Around here, they'll think I'm flashing "signs" and put a cap in my a$$

I raise two fingers from the wheel in a "peace sign" gesture, without removing the hands from the wheel.

A flash of the brights or a hearty "toot toot" CAN be appropriate, but can be misinterpreted or overly friendly.

I prefer the subtle.

I see so few other MINI's I tend to jump up and down and wave hysterically...oddly I don't always get a wave back.
