2006 and 2007 MINI S

B4 i orderd my MINI S i tested drive both 2006 and 2007 models. Unlike 2007 MINI s, I love the clutch in 2006 MINI S because i don't have to release more than half clutch. the 2007 MINI S i need to relase more than half clutch b4 my foot on the gas.....

but i love 2007 MINI S engine sound....... lovely engine sound....

does anyone know why the clutch has big different between 06 and 07 models. and who can give me the detail information about the clutch and the sound system like which company made the them and the how much output watts of the standard sound system. beacuse i just know about the engine is made by PSA Peugeot Citroën of France.

Did you have the sport button on in the 2007? If find the sport button affects my clutch considerably. Others have said no, but on my 2007 MCS, the sport button makes a difference when releasing the clutch...

Honestly, the 07's clutch were made easier to operate compare to the 06. I have an 03 R53 MCS and an 07 R56 MCS. I can tell you the clutch travel is A LOT shorter in the 03 MCS, and also tons heavier too. It was a very hard clutch to drive... the 07 MCS is much more user friendly...

Not sure about the sport button, maybe with it ON you have more power to engage so it makes you FEEL it faster??? shrug...

I don't understand how the sport button can affect the clutch response -- the clutch being a mechanical system.

Are you referring to the different throttle mapping?

btw, I recently test drove a new 07 MCS and I have to agree that the 07 clutch has an unacceptable engage point. Hopefully they've just been adjusting them incorrectly at the factory and it can be corrected by the dealer.

06 and 07 comparison

I had an 04 MCS and now have an 06mcs. Just drove the 07. The major difference, besides the horrible 1950's cartoon comic book plastics in the dash/stereo/heating/air facia is the incredible improvement in handling in the 07's. I'd get the 07 just for the cornering...my goodness. That thing can handle and stay stable. Can you imagine a stock MINI being dramatically out handled by a stock MINI? Wow. Loved it. Didn't notice the clutch much, but I am old and have driven so many clutches that I don't care. The cornering stability at speed is insane.

I agree it doesn't make much sense. I'll take the MINI out for a coffee run tonight and test the clutch again with sport ON and OFF...then report back.

Unfortunately, as far as I understand, the clutch on the 07 isn't adjustable. I know that many late-model BMWs had a clutch delay valve installed at the factory that would move the engagement point higher up in the clutch travel and it was possible to simply remove them but I don't think that the Mini clutch operates this way. Hopefully there are other ways to go about this...

You are correct. I ran another test with sport button on and off, it does not affect the clutch as I first imagined. I believe the difference in the 'feel' is what you state above, different throttle mapping. The increase in rpm's mating to the clutch must be why it seems to 'work better' in sport mode...

John

PS. I just clicked over 2000 miles on my way to Starbucks tonight!
