MINI Challenge - Donington Park, UK

Does anyone have any word yet on how American champ Waylen Hunsucker fared at the MINI Challenge at Donington Park this past weekend?

I heard he got in the seat and found no steering wheel or pedals, etc.

I think I read somewhere that he is coming back Wednesday.

Miniwildcat told me he got the license issues worked out. I haven't heard a report yet about the actual race.

Good One, Donna!

I floated the question on MINI2 but only heard about the top 3 finishers and that the weather sounded pretty horrendous. No mention of the "Yank".

Yep, Forster won on track in the first race but was given a retrospective drive through penalty and docked 30 seconds for contact, Jack Stanford was promoted to 1st.

Nixon won in club class, Lovett Second, Gary Robertshaw third - After my gearbox died...

Second race, Forster won, can't remember who was second, Freddy (Nordstrom) was third...

Nixon won in club class - once I'd been punted into the gravel by Ed Lovett (thanks mate), I was second, and Ed Lovett was third...

. . . and

Forster won the second race wich was almost a night race in shocking conditions.

Was able to find some pix from the Donington event - courtesy of a British MINI club that made a run down there. Looks like the weather was pretty cool, cloudy and raw but still appears the MINI folks were out in force for the Festival at a beautiful looking venue. Still no word on how Waylen fared?

I've heard that he was 10th in race one and 8th in race two but haven't been able to confirm. I can find the points but not the race results.
Knowing the general number of cars on grid, I'd say not too bad considering that he was sitting on the other side of the car and shifting with his left hand.

This picture from the MINI Challenge site looks rather soggy.

In the future, in order to be fair, the Brits should come over here and allow THEIR drivers the pleasure of shifting with their RIGHT hand, not to mention driving in the CORRECT lane. Might be interesting to see how successful THEY are....

Actually, they will. The MINI Challenge champion, Gareth Nixon, will come here and race. He will come either to Las Vegas or Sebring next year. I heard they really enjoyed Waylen over there and had a JCW car for him to drive with his name on it.

Thanks for posting those results Donna - I'll link them here too if you don't mind. Way to go Way! Truly impressive results for someone racing in conditions remarkably different from those encountered in the NAMCC races here - i.e., right-handed drive and significantly larger fields!

Donington Results:

Race One & Race Two

I think the results were great too. I wonder how well he would have done with a bit more right hand drive practice. The rain picture is so dark, it looks like a night race.

. . . more good sleuthing there Donna! I think it's funny how they keep the antennas on the cars - certified STOCK!

Thanks for posting the pics Donna.

Sorry I've been sick since I got back and not just jet lagged. So I will be posting more stories of my trip as soon as I can.
