I live in Boston and want to compete is some autocross events here. I heard that MINIs can enter BMW club events, but wondered if you need to have a membership in the club to run. Even if its not "required" do most MINI owners that run in the club have memberships? Any help would be appreciated.

You have to be a member. I ran with them for years. Tell Steve Hazard I said hi.

 

I participate in the Lone Star Chapter BMWCCA events... we allow non-BMWCCA members to attend one event, but after that we require membership to participate. Our chapter got into some trouble with the IRS because of significant revenue being generated by non-members for our motorsports program - something to do with them challenging our non-profit status because of our bylaws and charter or something. Anyway, we got off with a warning. Ever since then, we changed our policy...

Once non-members come to one of our events, we seem to have a pretty high conversion rate. Meaning, many non-BMWCCA members suddenly decide to join the club to continue coming to our events... Why? Our events are a freakin' blast (faster and longer) in comparison to many other local autocross clubs (including our local SCCA chapter).

Our chapter classes our MINIs with the BMWs (much to their chagrin, since MINIs have been winning 4 of the 7 classes) ... all other marques are in seperate classes.
