SCCA Street Prepared Class?
#2
I don't think the Mini's have been officaly classed for anything other than the stock classes. They were classified in "fastrack" last year and will be added to the rule book this year.
Talking to people in the know, I've been told that a stock classification does not automatically equate to a SP/P/M classification.
If I was to guess where the Mini's would end up I would say:
D Street Prepared
Street Touring X (I'm hopeing for STS)
Beyond that I won't venture a guess
Keep an eye on fastrack and hope for classification in the 2003 rulebook other wise OSP

>>The MC is FSP, the MCS will probably be DSP
>>
>>In the touring categories the MC is STS, the MCS is STX
Are these predictions or have you read this somewhere? From what I've heard there is still a chance that the MCS could be placed in STS with the likes of the VW turbos.

The major differences are
Stock: Must be available on the car from the factory to order, plus you can use R compound tires. You can do some other stuff like swap out the exhaust.
Touring: You can add wider wheels & Tires (Must run street tires) , most suspension mods (coilovers/camber plates/strut bars), CAI, and Limited Slip Differential (LSD), racing seats (with/in limits)
Street Prepared: Most of what's in touring plus engine mods
The MCS can only go to STX because of the supercharger. If you add a cold air intake to an S or go to non-stock size wheels - you then move to STX vs GS. If you add the CAI and/or wider wheels than stock to the MC - you then move to STS vs HS.
Example: My MCS will run in STX next year. I've added a Quaife LSD, stiffer rear sway bar, CAI, non stock wheels, and will do coilovers soon
If you change the boost, chip it, or go to a smaller pulley you go to Street Prepared, which for the S will probably be DSP.
The MC going to FSP is official, but I can't report chapter & verse
Best bet if you are not sure is to get an SCCA Solo II Rulebook. The 2003 book is due out any day now.

Not to pick nits with you but a few people may take your post as gosiple and I think I should make a few clarifications. And I'll also restate for anyone contemplating making changes to their cars get a rule book!
>>Touring: You can add wider wheels & Tires (Must run street tires) , most suspension mods (coilovers/camber plates/strut bars), CAI, and Limited Slip Differential (LSD), racing seats (with/in limits)
Limited slip is only allowed in STX
>>Street Prepared: Most of what's in touring plus engine mods

This is not entirely true. The SCCA has made allowances for low HP cars with "boosted" engines Examples include 1.8 Turbo VW & 2wd Audi, Mazda GTX, Volvo S40.
Therefore the SCCA could allow the MCS to compete in STS with the supercharger.
>>If you change the boost, chip it, or go to a smaller pulley you go to Street Prepared, which for the S will probably be DSP.
You can not change boost and stay in SP! Add boost and your best bet for the mini is Street Mod.

I could not find any reference to FSP in the Jan or Feb Fastrack so I would not holpd my breath until you see it in black and white.

I could not agree more.
DS/GS/STS/STX/DSP ? Waiting for the 2003 rule book to decide on a car and a class.
