Just weighed my MCS - 2640 lbs

I thought I'd share something that's been brought up a few times. I took the new MCS down to the old truck scales and weighed her. 2640 lbs with a half tank gas and without driver. That's pretty accurate with Mini's claim of 2674 fully loaded.

I didn't get many options with the car, so that explains the slightly less than advertised number.

Not very "mini," is it? I think the US-spec Elise comes in under a ton.

I assume 2960 is with driver. How much is the driver?

The pinto got his **** handed to him. It looked like a door slammer but wasn't.

I'm getting an 05' MCS in the beginning of May(currently in production) and i think on my way home i'm going to take it to the landfill weigh station which is about a mile from my house. I'll also fill the tank so there's no question on how much fuel is in it. It'll be without driver so it should be the most accurate you can get.

After that i'll be doing a whole list of small mods to remove weight, one ball, odysey batt, lightweight wheels, lightweight brakes and so on so i'll report back as each is done.

Ohh almost forgot, the car will have xenon's and the Pano Sunroof. Before an autocross when the car is set up with the autox wheels and full emptied (low on gas and no washer fluids) i'll take another weight measurement with a 1/4 tank.

If it's still possible remove that.

Sunroof's add weight and create chassis flex

Nope roof isn't going anywhere. I know very well how much it weighs and where the weight is. But the car is a daily driver first and i want my Pano sunroof! So thats why alot of the other weight savings will be pretty much to offset the extra weight of the roof. Honestly i could probably lose 30lbs before ever needing to lose the roof!

Also with modern small car chassis design i would be hard pressed to see any significant chassis flex due to the sunroof. You would have to put it on an engineering chassis machine to see anything and on top of that it'll probably only be a VERY small percentage change.

I weighed mine yesterday at the track. 3/4 tank of gas and no driver. It weighed 2680.

I have an '03 CooperS w/o the sunroof. I also have a set of 16" Kosai K-1's and Yoko Pradas on it. No run flats.

But the Pano sunroof is 60 lbs at the top of the car, leaving a great huge hole in the roof for flex. How could you.

Currently have an '02 without Pano and will be replacing it with an '05 without a Pano. Too hot, too heavy. No thank you!

Oh, by the way. The weight quoted by the factory INCLUDES 165lbs for the driver.

I covered that already in one of my previous posts, if the car was a dedicated track car it would have come with no options. But again, its my daily car and there are things i want in my daily car. In my 2004 car i had the Pano roof living in South Florida and NEVER had a problem with the car being hot.

I guess we'll prove that correct or not when i weigh the car the day i pick it up. If your correct the car should weigh 2490.

2-BMP Tower strut bar
3- Bilstein PSS9 coilovers, Alta endlinks, H-sport control arms, RDR camber plates, Madness rear swaybar

Set up for autocross/track with:
1- Set of Kosei K1 TS 15x7" rims and Kumho V710 205/50-15 tires
2- no left rear back seatback or rear head rests
3- no JL stealthbox subwoofer from boot.
4- No floormats
5- No antenna

Full gas tank and no driver
2622 pounds

Just got back from the weigh station.

She came in at 2720lbs with no driver and full fluids. I filled up the tank and drove 0.8 miles to the weigh station so how much fuel was in the car should be no question. Doesn't look like the 2640lb the factory states is with any driver. It does seem like it might be the weight of a "dry" car with no fluids except oil.

A full tank of gas in the MINI should weigh about 90lbs if you do 13.2 x 7lbs= 92.4lbs. 2720bs - 92.4lbs = 2627lbs.

Now to remove about a hundred lbs with some simply things.
