Meatball?
I want to do the big splurge for numbers this season. Given the fact that I can't get the same number for the different events I want to do a meatball on each door and have a few numbers to swap around.
Is the right way to get a magnetic meatball and use electrostatic vinyl numbers. As I do both AX and track will this setup stay on the car? If not, what is the best way to accomplish this?

You may have more success with a vinyl meatball and magnetic numbers. The magnet won't mind the little extra thickness of the vinyl and they will help hold it on. Static cling works better with large pieces.
Thanks Motoring - I did a bit more research and it seams that static vinyl isn't made for high speed.
I'm now leaning toward a magnetic meatball and magnetic or removable adhesive vinyl.
Others told me that magnetic letters won't adhere well enough at high speeds to a magnetic meatball. Has anybody tried this?

definitely won't work. Two layer of magnetic have a hard time sticking to the freezer in my garage.
try to get contact paper/shelf liner in the appropriate color, it is much lower tack than regular sign making vinyl.
Or do the meatball in White vinyl and leave it on the car all the time

Cheese, I'm there! I just have to get them to stick. I guess the dual magnets won't work. One guy has removable vinyl that uses and removable adhesive. Has anyone used this?

I will stick with printing ones on the computer and sticking them on my windows.
If you really want to be cool, make yourselff a bunch of ones and sevens, out of vinyl, easiest to make and you have LOTS of combinations. If you spray windex on the doors prior to aplication and used a squeegee(sic) to put them on, they will a) stay on all day, b) look hyper cool and c) peel off so easy you won't believe it......
also preregistering and laying claim to A number is always worth a try.....

I really don't think that information is correct. I have static cling meatballs, and I've done over 100+ with them on, and they didn't even budge. After having been on for 3 weeks, I removed them to detail my car, and it was pretty tough to remove. Lots of static. Just trying to find an edge to lift was kinda scary (without hitting a fingernail into my paint!)
The people that I've talked to who said they had problems with static cling I feel had more to do with improper installation.
I make sure my car is freshly washed and dried. Then I spray on a highly diluted carwash soap mixture on the meatball. Then using a large terry cloth towel, I squeeze out the water, being very careful to remove all bubbles. I let this sit in my garage for atleast a day to dry out.
You can see the procedure on my site here:
How to apply a meatball that doesn't fly off
Here are some pics from the article:

It's that time of year again, so I thought I'd resurrect this thread to see if any of you have any more recent experience with the dilemma posed by BlueMCS at the top....that is, what is the best option between:
a. vinyl static cling numbers on top of vinyl static cling meatball
b. vinyl static cling numbers on top of magnetic meatball
c. magnetic numbers on top of vinyl static cling meatball
d. magnetic numbers on top of magnetic meatball
...when you want something temporary for race days, easy to use, and the flexibility to change your number.
Thanks in advance for any input!
