Drag Racing

I bet a lot of people saw the title and cringed. I was at the drag track tonight with my brother and two friends. My two friends raced, my brother and I spectated. The thing is, my brother has a stock '03 RSX-S, my one friend has a '95(?) Prelude with an H22 swap and exhaust pipe, and I have an AWESOME R53 with an exhaust pipe. So since the cars seem pretty close of a match on paper, we were thinking about bringing them back to the track on Wednesday to race eachother. Now that that whole explanation is done, here's what I would like to know. Can my MINI handle drag racing? Granted I won't beat it; probably 6k RPM is where I'll shift, unless someone says I can do more safely, or if I shouldn't even bring it that close to redline (6800-6900 RPM). I don't want to hurt my buddy, so any tips, warnings, etc are appreciated

Bang it off the redline all you want, it's there to keep you from hurting anything. It's a daily occurrence for me, just make sure all of your fluid are topped up and it will be fine.

Go for it, as stated above the limmiter is there to protect your engine. The stock limmiter can even be rased to 7400 rpm and your engine is still safe.

The hardest part is getting a good launch, anything over 2500 rpm results in a lot of tire smoke for me.

I also hit redline often, as a matter of fact, since my RMW tune, I have hit the rev limiter twice since the car just keeps pulling and if I don't look at the tach I have no sense of approaching it. The car just keeps pulling.

As suggested, proper racing will affect the life of the clutch more than anything else. One day, a couple of runs shouldn't do anything. Just make sure it is up to temperature and you are full of all the juices you need.

I will testify that the rev limiter does work on the MINI. Floor it!

To get a fast launch off the line, you may have to rev to 4500 rpms before engaging to clutch. This can detract from the longevity of the clutch.

Just wanted to give you a way of beating your friends.

If you actually get to race one of your friends..do NOT wait until you see green light...you'll be waaaay late...try to leave on the last yellow...by the time you SEE yellow and brain engages and foot moves it WILL be green!

just a tidbit
