Ok, just completed my first year of autox. In order to be competitive in GS I need to switch to an R compound tire. What tire is everyone else running in GS?

Brand, Size, source

I would rather have his up here with the racers than just in the tire forum.

Depends on your tire budget.

Expensive... Hoosier A3S03 or R3S03 215/40/16 A's heat up faster. R's last longer.

less expensive... Kumho V700 Ecsta 205/45/16 work best if you shave them, but will work ok if you flip them regularly. will last longer than hoosiers

third option... Kumho Victoracer 225/50/16 will rub in the rear but will last a long time. They are a little tall so gearing suffers. Last the longest

There are two new tires coming out one from Kumho and one from Hoosier that are supposed to cut the performance gap between wear and grip. Since they are not yet available, know body knows the sizes or prices.

buy them from TIRE RACK

I use a set of Kumho V700's that are take-offs from a friend who runs his Cooper in SCCA Club Racing. A damn fine tire if ya ask me.They do take a few runs to heat up, but I do like them for AutoX more than my Falken Azenis.

v700s. 205/45-16's. give great response and enough grip for the "S". one of our bone stock MCS' with only v700's was good for 6th overall before pax adj. here. it made every turn thrown at it and was a blast through the slaloms. b

i did try a MCS with stock 16"s and stock dunlops and it drove totally different. it sucked. oh well. b
