Mini Autocrossing in SF Bay Area
Mini Autocrossing in SF Bay Area
Hello Mini Fans-
I recently purchased a used 2006 Cooper S JCW and absolutly love it. It fills that need for a fun performance car and is still practicle and comfortable. My question is this; I would like to fine a mini club or other group in the SF Bay Area that puts on regular autocross events. I have a teenage son and believe it would be a fun activity for both of us while learning the limits of car control.....in a relatively safe manner. Any club guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

LOL. SFR SCCA would absolutely be the best bet. They run events all year including a Slush Series in the winter. They run at the Stick, Golden Gate Fields, and the Oakland Colosseum.
Their rules are pretty much what everyone else copies. The Sacramento chapter will be running most of it's events at Mather Field (read: large course) and a few at the Stockton Fairgrounds.
Pevard, it is well worth joining SCCA. They also have autocross schools once a year for the noobs. You just need a current Snell approved helmet. Pyrotech makes great ones for not a huge wad of cash. We prefer open face, especially when running a hardtop. In the valley, it gets damned hot, and you might wind up running in the valley someday, or maybe at AMVIV.
Now then, you will be running in C-Stock (as my wife and I do). There are cars there that eat Mini's alive, like RX-8s. Just go to have fun.
