Yokohama ADVAN A048 Life Expectancy ??

I am looking for a new sets of track tires. I was using a set of Dunlap Dierzza Sport Star Specs, but it's time to replace them. I was hoping that someone had some insight as to how the ADVAN A048 MH (MediumHard) do. Estimated heat cycles and tire wear. I don't expect them to last as long as the Sport Stars but I don't want to only get a couple of track days of life either.
A typical track day for me is 5 - 15 minute sessions (5 heat cycles). A friend of mine only got about 3 track days out of his Hoozier R6's and the 3 day he said the Hooziers were pretty well shot.
Also, any other suggestions of R compound tires would be helpfull.

Okie,

I use to use the Yoko A048s on my Lotus Elise and they seem to last quite well, about 10 track days along with some street driving. Remember the Lotus is quite a lot lighter car at 2000 Lbs.

I have been seriously thinking about this as well and have decided to try the BFG g-force R1 tire. Please see this post:

Thanks Slinger. The rims I have are 17" Kosie K1 TS. I have an 08 R56, Sport Suspension. The Sport Stars are 215/40 17" and fit fine. Anyone know what sizes of BFG R1 or ADVAN I can use?

In 17" rims, many use the Advans in 215/45 17. There is also the Nitto NT-01 in that size. I know a couple of people running the NT-01s this year and they liked them. I have not tired it though.

To lighten my rims, I went to 16" from 17". Maybe that is a possibility for you.

I know some BMW guys that run that tire. Might want to search the track forum on bimmerforums. I always find good info there on track tires.

I ran the Medium A048 (215/45-17) on my cooper s, and got about 6 track events out of them, plus about 2000 miles of street driving. I had to use them on the street because I could not find a set of rims to fit over the stoptech brakes (I have since found a second set of wheels). I found them to wear very well (evenly and long life), and although not as light as an Elise, my Coop is about 2500 lbs, which is why I chose the medium.

Mind you, these tires are *beyond loud*, so much so that when I took them off, I could actually hear my full exhaust properly for the first time. They ROAR like nobody's business.

However they perform excellent in the rain on the track (when newish), and I was pleased in the dry as well (after they warm up).

Note: If you look at my gallery, the first pic is Kumho Ecsta tires, and the second shows the Advans. It'll provide a size comparison.
